SCOPE AND IMPACT
Predictive modelling and data are at the heart of our work. Through your expertise in building and implementing data science models and pipelines, you will help us to deliver best-in-class solutions and insights to our clients, enabling them to realise the full potential of their data.
Your role will involve working alongside our commercial and technology teams to deliver on a range of key projects, as well as providing mentorship to others in the data science team.
You will also be helping to create innovative tools and methodologies to unlock new areas of value for our clients. We most frequently work on projects in football and golf, but we are increasingly moving into other sports such as cricket, tennis and rugby.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead on scoping and delivering data science solutions for key projects. You will need to translate client requirements into actionable outcomes, combining your sport domain knowledge with your analytical expertise to suggest practical and innovative solutions.
- Be a key link between our data science and engineering teams to ensure that we efficiently integrate data science models into wider pipelines.
- Develop the skills and knowledge of more junior members of the team, and role model best practice for others across the data science unit more broadly.
- Play an active role in Ramp;D to ensure that we continue to innovate and move the needle in sport.
Requirements
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Data science
- Proficiency in R. Having good knowledge of Python too is an advantage.
- Understanding of database management systems and proficiency in SQL.
- Experience with Git version control and Docker. Knowledge of the AWS ecosystem is an advantage.
- Strong previous experience creating and maintaining data ingestion pipelines.
- Excellent understanding of the model development process and of core statistical modelling and machine learning techniques. Understanding of Bayesian inference models and Monte Carlo simulation is an advantage.
- Applied experience of developing data science solutions and putting machine learning algorithms into production in an industry setting.
- Good knowledge of golf and football is an advantage. Experience in other sports will also be beneficial.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to people from a non-analytical background.
- Desirable to have experience leading projects.
- Experience mentoring or managing more junior members of a team is also an advantage.
