Full time - Temporary

Location Remote, based in/near London or Wilton (Wiltshire) with occasional requirement for travel to Scotland for meetings and international travel when needed.

The HALO Trust is the world’s largest and oldest international humanitarian mine action charity. Our mission is to save lives and restore livelihoods for those affected by conflict. HALO is known for its work to clear landmines and the disposal of other explosive hazards such as bombs, rockets, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). HALO was established in Afghanistan in 1988 and now employs over 9,500 staff across 28 countries and territories.

We are seeking to fill a paid internship position with an enthusiastic and proactive recent graduate or student able to provide support in a busy office environment. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the successful candidate will work across the organisation, gaining invaluable experience to prepare them for their future career. The role would last for approximately 6 months, beginning on a part time basis of 25 hours a week with the possibility of increasing to full time should the candidate meet expectations.

This position can be located at either of our offices in Wilton (near Salisbury) or Thornhill, Dumfriesshire, Scotland. Remote working would also be possible should the right candidate present themselves.

Responsibilities include:

The role will provide you with the opportunity to work with a broad variety of departments within the HALO Trust. Once you have established the work that you find most rewarding, there will be scope to focus on your interests. Main initial responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with administration related to the development of HALO’s conservation/environmental portfolio and strategy.
  • Administrative assistance surrounding the upscaling Ukraine programme.
  • Writing work including donor reports, concept notes and minute taking.
  • Direct assistance work with any of our 28 programmes across the globe.
  • Creating and updating online training courses for different global teams.
  • Supporting the communications team with video editing and writing tasks.
  • Researching and drafting bi-weekly updates on news related to Afghanistan, as well as other research projects for other programmes.
  • Monthly administrative tasks needed to be conducted in the Wilton office.
  • File Management and Due Diligence support for the Partnerships team.
  • Reviewing and sharing bidding opportunities with relevant programmes and providing support on submissions when requested.
  • Updating an internal database to support the work of the medical team.
