Job Description

Circadia Health is a medical technology company that develops proprietary hardware, software, and algorithms for early detection of respiratory failure - the third leading cause of death. Its core product, the Circadia C100 Contactless Respiratory Monitoring System received FDA clearance in 2020. Circadia was founded in 2016 by Imperial College alumni, and is venture backed by Silicon Valley VCs, including Village Global, the fund backed by Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg. Circadia is headquartered in London with offices in Karachi and Los Angeles.

At Circadia Health, our mission is to save lives through early detection of symptoms, and we believe our unique technology can significantly improve the well-being of the most vulnerable members of our population. We are expanding rapidly and are currently looking for an experienced backend developer to support the development of novel clinical features and products as well as to aid with the transition of our architecture to support our growth, enabling data ingestion from hundreds of thousands of medical IoT devices, ensuring maximal reliability and its availability to our customers as well as our data science team and machine learning teams.

The role is based in London, UK, where Circadia’s core Ramp;D team (algorithms, data science, machine learning, electronics, hardware, firmware) is based, and where we are presently expanding our software team. The role will also work closely with our software support team in Karachi, Pakistan. Our frontend system is currently based on ReactJS and JavaScript, while our backend system is based on AWS, Python, C++ and is very database heavy (MySQL, PostgreSQL).


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain APIs that reliably fetch billions of data points related to patients’ statuses, medical histories, and respiratory rates, as well as data relating to installed Circadia devices.
  • Ensure the architecture and core backend systems (largely written in Python, C/C++) operate at maximum reliability and efficiency
  • Ensure services are continuously available to our customers. We run our services on AWS, provisioned using IAC tools such as Terraform and our core databases include Postgres, TimescaleDB and MongoDB
  • Ensure strict code quality by following TDD and use CI/CD tools for delivering your work. We use Github for VCS coupled with Github Actions and Jenkins for our CI/CD pipelines.
  • Work with PointClickCare, one of the biggest cloud-based electronic healthcare management software providers helping long-term and post-acute care (LTPAC) providers, to ensure Circadia’s systems are continuously receiving accurate and up to date patient information
  • Manage and optimise databases that span over 5 terabytes of data to creating functional table structures, indexes and optimised queries
  • Collaborate closely with Product and Operations teams in the US and the UK to understand customer needs to appropriately frame system requirements
  • Assist with drafting and publishing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts etc to allow product and project management to estimate timelines and manage resources within the team
  • Making sure software is developed and maintained according to different compliance standards, such as HIPAA, ISO, FIPS, etc.
  • Collaborate with Product Designers, Product Managers, and Software Engineers to develop compelling products and robust backend systems for web and mobile solutions.

Requirements

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, or similar quantitative field
  • Professional experience designing and developing sophisticated software products deployed in a variety of environments
  • Experience with large database systems and large-scale computer systems and proven track record of architecture design and software development
  • Demonstrable and substantial experience in leading and managing teams of software developers
  • Knowledge of and experience working with C++ and Python

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
