Job Description

Chief Learning Officer
Location: Cambridge, UK or Remote, UK, with regular travel to Cambridge
Salary: 85,000 - 92,000 p.a. full-time equivalent, dependent on experience
Basis: Permanent; full-time, part-time, or flexible
Eligibility: You must be eligible to work in the UK

We are looking for a new Chief Learning Officer to join the senior leadership team of the Foundation and help us realise our ambitious plans for global expansion and impact over the next decade.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will be the Foundation's senior adviser on subject knowledge and pedagogy, leading the development of our teaching and learning strategy, and ensuring that all of our products, resources, and learning experiences reflect the best research and evidence.

As part of our ambitious global strategy, you will be instrumental to the expansion of our work in India, Kenya, South Africa, and the USA. You will also lead the development of our pioneering work on AI and machine learning, building curricula, resources, and teacher CPD for this rapidly developing field. You will direct the Foundation's research activities, working collaboratively with the Director of the Raspberry Pi Computing Education Research Centre at the University of Cambridge.

Externally, you will have a high profile role in the Foundation's thought leadership and policy work, helping to shape the future of computing education at a global level.

Main responsibilities

  • Act as the senior adviser to the Foundation on subject knowledge and pedagogy related to computing, computer science, AI and machine learning, digital making, and wider digital skills.
  • Lead a highly skilled team of learning experience designers, curriculum developers, trainers, and researchers, providing them with the clarity and support to enable them to do great work.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to deliver agreed objectives and key results.
  • Develop the Foundation's teaching and learning strategy, ensuring that our approaches reflect the best available evidence of what works in teaching and learning of computing and related subjects.
  • Establish structures and processes for assessing and improving the learning outcomes that the Foundation is achieving, providing independent advice to the Board and Chief Executive on what needs to be done to improve learning outcomes, particularly for underserved communities.
  • Ensure that the Foundation’s staff understand and apply relevant research in order to improve our educational impact, including through structured training, and individual mentorship and support.
  • Build and maintain a high public profile for the Foundation globally as an authoritative voice on computing education, including through authoring blogs, papers, and articles; and organising and participating in seminars, conferences, and other speaking engagements.
  • Direct the Foundation's research activities, working closely with the Raspberry Pi Computing Education Research Centre at the University of Cambridge. Ensure that the Foundation is regularly publishing academic papers and other research outputs relating to its work that inform our activities and help to elevate the field of computing education more broadly.
  • Contribute to business development and fundraising, helping to identify and develop opportunities to expand the Foundation's impact.
  • As a member of the Executive team and wider Leadership team, contribute to the strategic direction, culture, and values of the organisation.
