Job Description

CMC is undergoing a period of digital transformation and our magazine brands (The English Garden, The English Home, Britain, Scotland, Discover Britain etc.) are looking for an outstanding Senior Digital Editor.

This is a great opportunity for an ambitious, progressive-thinking Senior Digital Editor who understands how to engage audiences, can champion a new proposition in the lifestyle sector and work closely with multiple stakeholders to develop a digital content strategy that supports the commercial objectives of each brand. You will also be responsible for driving online audiences alongside commercial partner development and engagement.

In this newly created role, you will deliver premium, high quality and engaging content for our audiences. This role will be responsible for managing, developing and nurturing team talent, whilst also developing and supporting best-practice digital journalism within our print based editorial teams.

The Senior Digital Editor will be responsible for delivering KPIs across traffic, advertising, affiliate and programmatic revenue along with collaborating with our print brands to establish new ways of working and maximising as much commissioned content to achieve the growth plan. They will work to deliver all digital content across our magazine brands, whilst managing our digital editorial team and making key decisions on how we publish across all digital platforms.

You will need a comprehensive knowledge of SEO, along with experience writing for the web with a focus on compelling affiliate content creation and be proficient in tracking keywords and trends whilst identifying content gaps in the relevant markets.

Responsibilities

  • Hitting and exceeding traffic targets, increasing engagement, subscriptions and revenue
  • Plan and execute our schedules and take the lead on special projects, utilising print content as well as commissioning and writing digital only content for web and social channels.
  • Lead regular analysis of the article archive as well as our competitors within the market, completing a content gap analysis and suggesting editorial opportunities to target.
  • Manage a team of digital content writers, ensuring content is optimised for a digital audience and promoted in ways to grow traffic and drive subscriptions.
  • Grow commercial revenue through creating compelling SEO directed content
  • Work with the commercial team on native ideation, client pitches and revenue generating ideas, commissioning and creating top quality, engaging and relevant branded content as required
  • Develop a plan that produces content in a range of digital formats, including newsletters, social and video
  • Manage workflow and content strategy across the team
  • Constant monitoring and reporting of site, affiliate, social media and data performance and opportunities via reporting tools
  • Adapt and pivot to Google algorithm updates to ensure our content is constantly, and consistently compliant
  • Drive data collection and oversee communications to this audience

Requirements

  • A record of online growth, expansion, adaptation, innovation and creativity
  • Senior digital journalism background with a deep knowledge of the women’s lifestyle market
  • Passion for a SEO led content strategy and the ability to identify trends, content gaps, UX, reporting on analytics and a knowledge of what drives site health leading to organic growth
  • An understanding of affiliate partnerships and a track record of revenue growth
  • Experience in uploading to a CMS and excellent commissioning skills
  • An experienced team manager, you will have an interest in well-being, playing to strengths and skills enhancement
  • Knowledge of video content creation and what engages an audience
  • Keen understanding of lifestyle audiences and brands, good clarity on CMC’s audience and brands
  • Proven experience of audience tools and key editorial metrics
