Job Description

  • Role: This role is a brilliant opportunity to put PensionBee at the heart of the big stories and to help shape a business news agenda that reflects PensionBee’s values and the interests of UK pension savers. Building PensionBee’s reputation and trust in our brand with key stakeholders including journalists, policymakers, customers, investors and the general public, the role of Senior Corporate PR Manager will be to generate positive press coverage for PensionBee in the business press and to manage reputation.

This will include contributing to PensionBee’s corporate reporting (annual, interim and quarterly reports), ‘corporate story’ press and other business and economics stories that are relevant to pension savers.

  • Full-time, reporting to Becky O’Connor, VP Press and Public Affairs
  • Compensation: Competitive salary of c.57,000, plus end of year bonus and participation in the equity scheme.
  • Start date: Q1, 2024

For far too long, pensions have been difficult to understand. PensionBee (the ‘Company’) makes pensions simple and engaging, so that everyone can look forward to a happy retirement. We do this by helping customers move into a modern, online pension with PensionBee.

Founded in 2014, we are a leading online pension provider in the UK, having become a household brand name. Whether customers want to get on top of their old pensions and combine them into one new plan, drawdown hassle free from the age of 55 or start a new pension, we have helped our customers to become ‘Pension Confident’.

PensionBee has grown rapidly and is listed on the Premium Segment of the LSE (IPO completed in 2021). As of 31 June 2023, we had c.3.7 billion in Assets under Administration c.211,000 Invested Customers. We have consistently maintained a Customer Retention Rate in excess of 95% and an Excellent Trustpilot rating, reflecting our commitment to outstanding customer service.

What is Press and Public Affairs?

The purpose of Public Affairs at PensionBee is to build greater trust in and awareness of the PensionBee brand. We have an established team of VP Public Affairs, Senior PR Manager and PR amp; Social Media Manager and strong, active relationships with press. In addition to consumer stories relating to pensions, we have a strategy focused on generating press coverage around our annual, interim and quarterly reporting, as well as ‘corporate story’ press, covering PensionBee’s evolution and future and reputation management.

We are adding to this, a new strand of coverage that reflects the interests of people who are shareholders through their pensions, bringing more transparency and awareness of pensions as investments and presenting pension holders as a powerful force for change in the global economy.

We recently decided to bring our corporate PR function in-house, having used an agency for the past few years. PensionBee is increasingly focused on generating broadcast coverage and joining-up press campaigns with the social media and content teams to maximise the impact of stories.

Specific Tasks amp; Duties

Aligned with the Public Affairs (corporate) strategy, the Senior Corporate PR Manager will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating set-piece coverage around our Annual Report, Interim Report, Quarterly Reports and AGM, as well as any ad hoc company related, market sensitive information, working with the Corporate and Engagement teams, Brand and Comms and other senior management.
  • Identifying and developing opportunities for coverage in target media outlets. This will involve keeping on top of reactive news opportunities to comment or offer analysis on business topics of interest to PensionBee and its customers, coming up with story ideas that could have cut-through in a crowded space and writing compelling press releases and forming new and maintaining existing relationships with key business journalists, enjoying regular meetings and phone calls. Helping to come up with new ways to engage journalists through events, teach-ins and interview offers.
  • Keeping the team up to date on press coverage relevant to our key business themes.
  • Creating and maintaining a reliable calendar, which is a vital part of this role. This will cover PensionBee announcements, other key company announcements (those companies that feature in our pension plans where there may be controversial votes or proposals, for example) we may wish to comment on; the release of relevant statistics and other corporate values-related launches or campaigns. The calendar will form a key part of identifying opportunities well ahead of time and preparing press engagement accordingly.
