Job Description

We are currently seeking an experienced Operations amp; Supply Chain Manager to join a well-established, family-run SME based in Manchester. Your will be responsible for maintaining effective working relationships, providing support to the wider Management team and internal customers where needed, whilst managing staffing levels across departments. You will undertake a wide range of warehousing and production activities, ensure staff wellbeing and morale and have first line responsibility for the management and development of staff, work practices and premises to ensure the efficient and effective running of the business priorities in these areas and beyond. An understanding and, preferably, a recognised qualification in Health and Safety law and its application would be highly desirable.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Achieve all set and agreed performance KPI’s and targets for themselves, their teams and departments.
  • Effective communication and liaison with all members of the warehouse, production and wider teams to ensure that Customer deliveries are OTIF and objectives are met.
  • Contribute towards the overall strategic aim of improving service and reducing cost.
  • Maintain levels of staff to achieve Operations and Procurement objectives, managing holidays and staff retention/vacancy fulfilment. Regular appraisals of subordinate staff and handling of all disciplinary and associated personnel related issues under their control.
  • To prepare delivery vehicles in a safe, efficient and timely manner to ensure mistakes are eliminated and that appropriate timescales for completion of vehicle loading are met.
  • Ensure safe Forklift truck operations, maintenance and servicing with all users legally trained and certified
  • Responsible for the receipt, checking, security and safe amp; correct storage of goods from suppliers whilst maintaining all details are correct via the procurement team.
  • Responsible for the correct storage of goods, textiles and products ensuring the safe and efficient location, tracking and delivery of received orders and replenishment, upon request, of the production facility.
  • Responsible for the efficient, safe and timely picking and loading of Customer ordered products on to the correct vehicle/route in the correct order of delivery.
  • Responsible for the reporting of any incidents, accidents, returned goods and picking/loading mistakes. These records must be passed to the General Manager daily.
  • Manage and build relationships with existing suppliers with regular, recorded and shared review meetings and strategically identify new alternative suppliers that will improve costs, efficiencies, reliability and/or stock availability.
  • Negotiate the most advantageous Commercial terms including the introduction and maximisation of rebate agreements, early payment discounts and financial penalties (where appropriate) to achieve product cost saving targets and maintain supplier reports showing savings made to date.
  • Have experience with overseas supply chains and working with freight forwarders to investigate and creatively manage inbound carriage/freight requirements, paying particular attention to cost, shipping times and product inventory/condition on delivery; Understanding and managing implications and actions required to ensure customs and excise compliance is an advantage.
  • Represent the Company to suppliers, Customers and others in a professional and courteous manner whilst always reflecting its values.
  • Look for and identify ways to improve yield, GP and/or savings in money, times, materials and/or resource.
  • Work with Ramp;D, sales and marketing on new product sourcing and existing product rationalisation or improvement of quality and/or supply.
  • Real time stock and raw material inventory controls to highlight issues with control or order fulfilment.

Requirements

  • Hands on Warehouse Management experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Stock control and Warehouse operations.
  • Production control amp; LEAN knowledge
  • Proven experience of Warehousing and Supply Chain Management.
  • Experience of stock control inc. overseas supply and freight forwarding.
  • Demonstrable achievements in a Production, warehousing, supply and stock control environment.
  • Demonstrable experience of issue resolution
  • Clear communication techniques.
  • Experience of working under pressure to strict deadlines and prioritising workload.
  • FLT experience.
  • Experience of managing a team and working on own initiative.
  • Experience of timed vehicle loading.
  • Logistics/Vehicle operations experience
  • Ability to prioritise workload to enable deadlines to be met.
  • Able to set high standards and lead by example
