In-House Counsel FTC (maternity cover) for 14 months

Grade 3

Salary Competitive + Car allowance + 12.5% annual bonus

Hybrid working Burgh Heath Epsom 37.5 hours per week

Key Requirements

For this role the ideal candidate will need

  • Experience of working within an in-house legal department, or a law firm with the ability to demonstrate close client contact.
  • Exposure to core company/commercial legal areas, e.g., Commercial Contracts, Consumer Rights, Data Protection, Advertising.
  • Qualified lawyer (or equivalent)

Role in a nut-shell

You will assist General Counsel in providing support and legal advice to the business (for example in relation to consumer and commercial contracts, advertising and financial promotions, consumer rights, data protection and legal disputes), obtaining documented opinions from external counsel where appropriate.

What you'll be doing:

Contracts:

  • Checking any legal documentation (i.e. contracts) from suppliers and third parties to protect the Company’s legal and commercial interests.
  • Proactively managing supplier contracts with Department Managers to ensure up to date, consistent legal documentation is in place and correctly filed.
  • Managing contract reviews for new suppliers or new contracts, escalating as required to General Counsel.

Advisory:

  • Advising on day to day legal matters and the legal requirements relating to new business ventures and product development, escalating to the General Counsel as appropriate.
  • Monitoring legal updates to ensure changes are understood and raised with the business at an appropriate level.
  • Proactively ensuring ongoing compliance with the law on a departmental and company level.
  • Reviewing external advertising to ensure that it is in line with the law and relevant advertising standards.
  • Managing litigation as required and instructing external lawyers as necessary.

Other:

  • Assisting with the production of legal training content and input into delivery of legal training from the HR amp; Training Department.
  • Maintaining and updating the Company’s internal policies and procedures manual with respect to legal issues.
  • Assisting in Company Secretarial duties as required by the Company Secretary, including Board and Shareholder resolutions.
  • Assisting in the legal management of European affiliate companies as required by the General Counsel.
  • Any other appropriate duties as required by line manager.
