Job Description

To support the Global Head of Conflict in ensuring the effective implementation of compliance controls and procedures, particularly those related to conflict of interest avoidance and the protection of confidential information. Additionally, the role will involve ensuring compliance with applicable legislative requirements and risk management. The position entails direct reporting responsibilities and oversight of the global conflicts and laterals, as well as the Firm's growth team. Responsibilities

Policy and Procedure Implementation

  • Collaborate with the Global Heads of Conflict and Deputy Global Head of Conflicts to draft and implement department policies, processes, and procedures related to conflict clearances, new matters, and lateral and Firm growth checks.
  • Work closely with the Global Head of AML to ensure best practices in new business acceptance, covering conflicts, AML, and other requirements.

Strategic Initiatives

  • Lead strategic initiatives, both internal and external, to streamline conflict clearances.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the global conflicts and lateral Firm growth team.

Project Management

  • Manage Firm Growth projects globally, focusing on conflict checks and collaboration with Project teams and other Business Service departments.
  • Periodically review lateral and Firm growth conflict checking processes to enhance efficiency.

Collaboration and Integration

  • Liaise with the risk leadership of potential combination firms to address legal and business conflicts.
  • Offer integration support once combination effective dates are identified and provide training and support on firm policy and procedures.

Data Management

  • Maintain thorough, accurate, and current records of all conflict resolutions to ensure the integrity of the database.
  • Investigate and resolve erroneous, outdated, or incomplete data in the global conflicts system.

Training and Communication

  • Assist in training firm legal administrative assistants, lawyers, and business services staff in understanding the firm's new matter intake, conflicts, and compliance procedures.
  • Manage communication to key stakeholders regarding global policies and procedures and ensure robust conflict checking processes.

Conflict Resolution

  • Assist in the prompt resolution of complex conflict issues, including legal and commercial conflicts, and risk assessments.
  • Initiate escalation requests to leadership in connection with business conflicts, coordinating CEO-level discussions and gathering relevant information.

Compliance and Leadership

  • Stay updated on the latest conflicts case law, modifications to conflicts rules, and ethics opinions.
  • Overall responsibility for workflow management and collaboration with Team Leaders.
  • Review and adhere to Dentons' internal compliance policies and procedures.

Training and Team Management

  • Provide conflicts training to other business services departments and fee earners.
  • Deliver team training on specific topics when required.
  • Supervise, motivate, coach, and mentor team members in their professional development.
  • Handle contract negotiation of all team members, including new joiners, with assistance from HR.
  • Conduct appraisal meetings, salary reviews, and approve promotions as part of the annual reviews.

Administration and Resource Management

  • Assist with the firm's internal audit processes.
  • Organize and implement Department projects and initiatives.
  • Manage team resources, including approval for new hires and replacements.
