Job Description

Backend Software Engineer (Python Django)

London, Permanent

Who we are

Our mission is to transform how healthcare organisations and their workforce work together. Our Connected Scheduling platform connects healthcare organisations and their workforce giving more autonomy and control to staff on how and when they work. Over 50% of UK GP practices use Lantum, we work with over 30% of UK hospitals too and we have not only saved millions in expensive staffing costs for the NHS, but we have countless stories of how we have improved the lives of clinicians who, for the first time, are able to plan their work lives around their personal lives.

What truly sets us apart is our culture and commitment to our mission. It is our incredible team that are the driving force behind our success and provide us with our competitive edge. We are a diverse group of people (20+ nationalities and 53% female workforce) who work hard to change an antiquated industry. We appreciate each others’ skills and differences, we are creative, focused and we are authentic to our true selves. Our team is supported to deliver their best work with clear career progression, a strong feedback culture and individual training budgets. We offer personal support too from health care subsidies including enhanced maternity and paternity leave and a Mental Health First Aider community.

We have a bright and modern office which you can work from throughout the week and 2 core office days per week (Tuesday amp; Wednesday) where the whole team comes together with free lunch provided. We are also open to discussing a Remote Working option for this role.

About the role

We are looking for a Backend engineer to join our growing Engineering team, where you will design and develop high impact features and improvements key in our company strategy growth. As part of a growing team, you will have the opportunity to share your experience through mentoring and supporting others, identify challenges, highlighting risks and suggesting improvements.

You’ll enjoy here because

This is a highly collaborative environment where you can expect to work closely with product, design and engineering teams, to develop new features, integral in our mission to grow into the Secondary Care Market.

We have a highly collaborative culture, with frequent pair programming and opportunities to experiment and get things wrong in a safe environment. You'll gain unparalleled exposure working in a cross-functional team with product and design as well as other engineers. As we enter a new period of growth and expansion, this is the perfect time to join a tech for good business where you can make a genuine impact in our success story. We champion the personal development of our people and to that end everyone of our engineers has 2 hours on a weekly basis blocked out in their diaries where they can pursue their own independent learning.

What you'll be doing:

  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers and other Engineers to design and develop high impact features and improvements to our product
  • Regularly ship iterative solutions with minimal guidance and support from other team members
  • Develop features and improvements in a secure, scalable, well-tested, and performant way
  • Craft code that meets our internal standards for style, maintainability, and best practices. You will maintain and advocate for these standards through code review
  • You’ll help identify areas of improvements in the codebase and help contribute to making it better

Requirements

  • Experience building and maintaining scalable, performant, and secure applications.
  • The ability to ensure quality (through testing or other measures) of the product and code shipped, efficiently, effectively and with a high cadence.
  • Strong experience with Python and Django
  • Experience with performance and optimisation problems and a demonstrated ability to both diagnose and prevent these problems.
  • Demonstrated capacity to clearly and concisely communicate about complex technical, architectural, and/or organisational problems and propose thorough iterative solutions.
  • The ability to identify key issues that inhibit a team’s effectiveness and the ability to deliver product improvements at pace.
  • Experience providing guidance or mentorship to more junior engineers.
  • A predisposition to thrive in a start-up environment.
