About the role

The Lead Copywriter role sits within our multi-disciplined marketing team and will be responsible for our copy across multiple formats including brand, marketing, transactional, commercial, CRM and onsite content areas.

You will manage a team of copywriters and set the standard required. You will be hands-on, lead by example and ensure we always deliver compelling, excellent copy at all times that works to our glossaries and tone of voice.

You will evangelise smart, quality, action-orientated copy across our marketing activity, both above and below the line. Working closely with multiple stakeholders across the business, you will also ensure our copy is consistent and impactful on our website, across our customer funnels and other touchpoints.

You will be hungry to identify additional opportunities to improve our copy, and bring our brand to life for customers at all times on both sides of our marketplace, for both selling customers and purchasing dealers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, develop and lead a team of Copywriters to ensure that our messaging is consistent, on-brand, and on-brief across our marketing collateral across paid, owned and earned activations and languages.
  • Upskill and train the teams on our copy tone and approach.
  • Oversee and own copy production across all touchpoints, including both ideation and approval.
  • Be a passionate thought leader for brilliant, simple, action-orientated copy that cuts through.
  • You will improve on how copy is worked on at Motorway and set up a hub to manage and train people.
  • Oversee the transcreation of assets across in-house and agency teams.
  • Create and manage complex messaging matrixes that bring to life the campaign strategy, speak to the audience and meet our communication objectives.
  • Manage external agencies to ensure a consistent approach to messaging and TOV is being used correctly in channel.
  • Facilitate / take part in creative concept sessions, leading copy development and considerations.
  • Work collaboratively with the in-house design department to deliver impactful product design and comms.
  • Identify new opportunities by actively bridging the gap between different teams and disciplines (e.g. Creative + Strategy + Web + SEO).
  • Suggest and test A/B measurement opportunities and ensure your team learn from campaign, content results and performance results.
  • Work collaboratively with discipline leads to ensure best in-channel copy and is being produced.

Requirements

  • Experience of leading and managing Copywriters.
  • Very strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • You’ll have bags of initiative and be able to work with ambiguity and take ownership with little direction.
  • Experience working in a team that covers multiple disciplines (e.g. creative, strategy, online content etc.).
  • You’ll have a collaborative approach with teams, and be a strong communicator able to drive change and innovation.
  • You’ll enjoy working with multiple stakeholders across product and comms teams, raise the bar for copy, and welcome feedback.
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced growth company is desirable.
