About Logistics UK

Logistics UK, formerly the Freight Transport Association is one of the biggest business groups in the UK, representing the entire industry with members from the road, rail, sea, and air industries, as well as the buyers of freight services such as retailers and manufacturers whose businesses depend on the efficient movement of goods.

An effective supply chain is vital to Keep Britain Trading, directly impacting over 7 million people employed in making, selling and moving the goods that affect everyone everywhere. With Brexit, technology and other disruptive forces driving changes in the way goods move across borders and through the supply chain, logistics has never been more important to UK PLC.

Job Summary

To create and edit our weekly members’ publication Logistics Magazine, which is distributed weekly on email to a circulation of 23,000. To write and collate content for Logistics Magazine and plan and commission content for its supplements (approx. four each year). To be the chief copywriter for key publications and speeches and in particular, for events collateral as required.

Responsibilities
  • To be the champion for Logistics Magazine internally.
  • To edit the membership publication as an online magazine to include but not only:-
    • 3 x news stories on Logistics UK policy activities/transport issues
    • 1 x news story on vans
    • 3 x features (one to be ideally on a non-road topic)
    • 1 x monthly interview with a senior person in logistics/related public body or government department
    • Policy content (1 x campaign win, 1 x campaign highlight, 1 x policy manager profile each month to be provided by policy team)
    • 1 or 2 weekly sponsored posts to be provided by sponsorship team
    • Logistics UK campaigns (eg Generation Logistics)
    • Logistics UK events promotion (eg Supply Chain Resilience, Fleet Engineer, Transport Manager)
    • Compliance (2 x weekly Ask the MAC Qamp;As, 1 x monthly compliance advice summary and 1 x monthly Legislation update)
  • Carry our other copywriting duties to include but not restricted to:-
    • Forewords and speeches for key events, in particular for the Chief Executive
    • Assisting with web copy where it relates to Logistics Magazine
    • Other key publications like our Annual Report and Accounts
  • To work with the Sponsorship Manager to plan content that ensures revenue from:
    • Supplements themed around a particular topic eg decarbonisation, skills, technology, devolved nations
    • Sponsored posts in the weekly Logistics Magazine
    • Email banners in the weekly Logistics Magazine
    • Web banners on the Logistics Magazine portal
  • To work with colleagues to ensure images are sourced to illustrate news stories and features, and correctly sized.
  • To liaise with colleagues to ensure content (text and images) is loaded onto the Content Management System (CMS), and the HTML weekly email is built using marketing software.
  • Attend Logistics UK and other industry events as required and undertake interviews with key industry personnel offsite as appropriate.
  • To liaise with all the service departments for latest news on products, the media team for the latest news, the policy team for latest activities and other supporting departments for example marketing for key events, campaigns and developments.

  • Ability to work at pace, assimilating complex information from multiple sources.
  • A current driving licence is essential.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and with all levels internally and externally.
  • Intellectually curious to ensure always looking for the next idea.
  • Experience of editing a publication.
  • Exceptional levels of customer service.
