Job Description
Provide geophysical support for Company’s, Sales amp; Marketing, Operations, and Engineering Development departments for both OBN amp; MTS activities. The Project Geophysicist is charged with the data quality assurance of surveys starting from receipt of the tender from Sales, through the transmission of final deliverables to the Client.
· Support for Sales
o Provide alternative and/or additional survey designs or layouts to more efficiently meet clients’ geophysical objectives.
o Review incoming data acquisition tender requests and provide technical responses, including technical exceptions, survey area maps, shooting plan scenarios and source modelling.
o Complete project time and motion estimations where required.
· Support for Marketing
o Contribute to the technical standing of the company through publications at industry conferences and in industry journals.
o Assist in the development of the company Geophysical Initiatives.
o Attend Client Meetings as required. As an expert, participate in meetings and contribute actively to development of client relations and participate in the promotion of the company’s image of excellence.
o Compile and present geophysical and technical slides, and present Company geophysical initiatives.
· Support for Operations
o Prepare project start-up documentation including preplots, shooting plans, operational maps, and parameter sheets as appropriate for the seismic method.
o Attend seismic project kick-off, start-up and close-out meetings if required to represent Geophysical Services and Technology group.
o Review end of job report for accuracy and quality.
o Problem dataset analysis with appropriate reporting.
o Assist in the design, writing and implementation of procedures, methods and technical content that facilitate good survey practices and the safe and effective operations of the Geophysical Department. Contribute to continual improvement and review of working practices and standards.
o Propose and implement best practices, new technologies and methodologies in QC processing offshore and geophysical support onshore.
o Ensure the geophysical quality of projects by assisting offshore QC Geophysicists to optimize sequences and parameters, contribute to the test and QC plan adapted to the project.
o Monitor Geophysical-related downtime and inform Management of potential means to reduce downtime.
o Review detailed analysis and provide recommendations on a weekly basis for ongoing projects.
Recommendations should contain the following:
Acquired data quality Vessel performance.
Coverage and Infill.
o Monitor the health of the deployed receiver spread.
o Provide support for and where necessary supervision of any production processing efforts for the project whether carried out onboard or by the third party onshore.
· Support for Engineering Development
o Provide geophysical input into the research and development portfolio.
o In cooperation with Engineering Development, conduct technical studies and tests in order to validate new technologies and methodologies.
o Assist in planning, execution and analysis of acquisition technology tests.
o Develop and design source and receiver configurations.
· General
o Keep abreast of changes in seismic data acquisition and processing technology.
o Administration of the Company seismic project documentation sharing portal and maintain all ITT amp; Project location history.
o Ensure department’s assets are tracked and maintained according to Company procedures and best practices.
o Maintain the necessary software toolbox.
Requirements
- Expert knowledge of all marine seismic acquisition methods and the associated lay-outs, geometries and operational practices.
- Expert knowledge of seismic QC products and workflows.
- A good understanding of seismic theory and its application.
- A good understanding of the marine seismicacquisition technologies.
- Competency with at least one industry standard seismic data processing package.
- Compency with a industry standard survey planning package.
- At least degree level in a suitable Geoscience, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering or other analytical discipline, or extensive industry experience.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with superiors, peers and reports.
- Ability to work as a team player with a spirit of initiative and achievement.
