Janes is searching for a Legal Counsel- based at Janes HQ in Croydon, London. The role will report into the Group General Counsel based in the UK and will be an integral part of the global Janes Legal and Compliance Team. The role will involve providing day to day legal support to the business and assistance to General Counsel to operate with maximum efficiency when providing legal and compliance related support. There will be an emphasis on assisting with compliance matters including review of entities that Janes transact with, familiarity with the compliance tools and solutions and appropriating reporting and escalation.

Activities that Janes Legal team does support is highly varied and covers all legal issues arising from a global data and analytics business, including general commercial contracts, corporate governance, IP matters, Compliance regime and government/federal contracting.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE AT JANES

  • Review, draft, advise on variety of contracts with customers, suppliers, marketing, technology etc. as per playbook/precedence and acceptable standards and policies.
  • Provide reasonable support on corporate governance/company secretariat matters incl drafting board resolutions, minutes and filings
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of legal concepts/knowledge, drafting and interpretation skills.
  • Ensure the organization's internal contract documents/repository are well maintained.
  • Get involved in legal negotiations with external customers and provide variety of legal support to internal stakeholders.
  • Identifying gaps in the process for improvement, and provide support and advice on new potential businesses opportunities being mindful of legal aspects including intellectual property, data privacy etc.
  • Assisting on Compliance processes and ensuring a company complies with its regulatory requirements and internal policies including due diligence screening
  • Evaluate the efficiency of controls, monitor and escalate to the GC on any compliance improvement processes
  • Supporting on drafting and role of legal guidelines and internal policies to the business
  • Team player and identify and escalate to GC potential risk or process improvement areas.
  • Willingness and ability to travel

Requirements

THE IDEAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE FOR THIS ROLE ARE

  • Qualified lawyer(1-3 PEQ) in any jurisdiction (UK preferable) with ability to demonstrate a solid understanding of legal terminology
  • Experience working in a global fast-paced Data and Analytics business or Software and Technology in one of more of key areas of compliance, regulatory, federal contracting.
  • Hands on and comfortable working as part of a multidimensional team and comfortable escalating matters at right time
  • Exemplify a strong attention to detail and rolling our processes and policies
  • Previous experience working within Legal, corporate governance or compliance role is strongly preferred
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and legal interpretation skills
  • Capable of professionally managing confidential information
  • High emotional quotient, proactive and keenness and ability to learn and grow within the team.
