The Corinium Museum holds large and internationally significant collections of archaeology, social and rural history as well as running the Visitor Information Centre. The collections range from prehistory through to the 19th century, covering key curriculum subjects.

We are looking for a Collections Engagement Officer to join our friendly and professional team!
You will be required to reinforce the core message of the museum collections as a resource for learning and enjoyment. The post will provide a specialist role within the Museum Service, specifically regarding collections documentation, care and conservation. The post will contribute to a programme of community engagement activity and will help catalogue, monitor and interpret the archaeological collections in the museum and at the Resource Centre in Northleach.

Hours: 16 hours per week, Monday - Tuesday

Working hours between 8.45am 5.15pm

Requirements

  • A degree or equivalent in archaeology, museums or heritage
  • 2 years experience in a collections and engagement related role
  • Knowledge and understanding of collections management issues and museum audiences
  • Experience of sourcing external funding or grants
  • At least 1 years experience managing volunteers
  • At least 2 years experience working with communities
  • Experience of leading, planning and implementing a programme of adult activities and workshops
  • Working experience of delivering talks or lectures to public audiences
  • Methodical, with excellent administrative and organisational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Highly proficient with IT including MS Office and database systems
  • Excellent team working skills
  • Driving is a part of this role so a full, clean driving licence is required
  • Ability to prioritise and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with a high level of judgement, tact, discretion and initiative

Desirable

  • Working knowledge of history and archaeology
  • Experience of producing external and internal reports and publications
  • Experience of museum database systems
  • A working knowledge of developing and installing exhibitions and displays
  • Knowledge of art and craft and the issues affecting arts and culture
  • Creative skills
