Job Description

The opportunity

We have an opportunity for a talented Payments Operations Associate to join us on the exciting and rewarding path we are taking here at Castle Trust Bank. Having become a fully authorised bank in 2020, we pride ourselves in being a fintech challenger bank, providing specialist property mortgages, retail finance lending and savings accounts to a variety of customers. Proud winners of the ‘Best Place to Work’ award at the Hampshire Business Awards 2023!

Working in our Payment Operations team, you will support the team in creating and maintaining payments and reconciliations across each of our business divisions Savings, Omni and Property. Working as part of a team, you will assist in the timely and accurate processing of payments via Bacs, Faster Payment and cheque, as well as completing internal banking movements within the required timescales. You will also be responsible for the timely allocation of funds to client accounts and investigating exceptions for unallocated, suspended, and failed funds within required SLAs.

Taking into consideration the nature of the role, you will ensure regulatory adherence to payment processing and SLAs, working with frontline teams for complex investigation and query management. Using some automated and some manual methods, you will ensure accurate and independent reconciliation processing including the investigation of exceptions and breaks, participating in month end and year end processes and reporting. In time you will become a subject matter expert for payment processing within the Payment Operations team and promote industry standards and process improvements.

The role will initially be based in our Basingstoke office based on business needs, Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:30.

What we are looking for in you

What is important to us is that you have demonstrable experience working within Financial Services in a payment processing capacity. You will be experienced in detailed reconciliations and payment query resolution with a sound understanding of payments within a regulated environment. Taking into consideration the nature of the role, your Excel knowledge and experience will need to be strong with the ability to confidently use formulae, lookups and pivot tables, managing large volumes of data. If you have knowledge of general ledgers and broader accounting, this will be advantageous.

What is equally important is that you are a team player and a natural problem solver with an inquisitive and logical mind, with the ability to pay meticulous attention to detail and a desire to continuously learn and improve.

What’s in it for you

As well as a competitive salary, we offer an annual performance related bonus based on individual and company performance. In addition, a generous contributory pension scheme through Hargreaves Lansdown, life assurance, 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays on top) with the option to buy/sell up to 5 additional days (terms apply). In addition, you will receive an extra day paid annual leave for Volunteering.

Wellbeing is also high on our agenda, and we offer healthcare benefits through Vitality and Equipsme. In addition, all colleagues have free access to Lifeworks EAP to support their health and wellbeing. We also offer free eye test vouchers and discounted gym membership, and if that’s not enough, we also offer season ticket travel loans (if applicable).
