Production Engineer - Martin Audio

Based: High Wycombe

Term: Permanent, Full time

Salary: 40 - 50 pa + Excellent benefits

The Role:

An experienced Production Engineer is required to join a multidisciplinary team of engineers to assist with the introduction of new products into production at our UK manufacturing site, as well as overseas contract manufacturers.

You will be involved within the design stage of new product development to give input at the design phase as well as preparing for mass production.

As a key member of the change management team, you will sustain the manufacture of existing products and resolve production problems as they arise. You will have a genuine interest in professional audio, understand what matters to customers and have a good working knowledge of loudspeakers.

Essential Functions and Main Responsibilities:

  • Introduce new products into production:

o Plan workflow, space requirements and equipment layout,

o Design fixtures and tooling for assembly tasks.

o Generate production documentation such as assembly instructions

o Interact with key suppliers to ensure parts are produced to the required standard and within an agreed tolerance.

o Organise and run pre-production or pilot builds to resolve all issues prior to mass production.

o Manage the introduction of new products into production at overseas contract manufactures undertaking site visits as required.

  • Work within the design team to give Production Engineering input at the design stage and have foresight to plan for future production.
  • Change management:

o Investigate reported production problems and customer related issues/requests to generate a problem report with proposed corrective actions.

o Report into the change management team to confirm corrective actions.

o Create change notices using the companies PLM system.

o Update CAD, drawing and Bills of Material as required.

o Implement changes to the production line.

o Update documentation such as working instructions.

  • Sustain the production of existing products.

o Re-sourcing and the approval of parts from alternative suppliers.

o Continuous improvement of production with regards to tools and working practises.

  • Visit key suppliers in the UK and overseas, to discuss new product requirements, best design practice and achievable tolerances

Skills and experience required:

  • You will have a degree in mechanical engineering, design engineering, or associated discipline.
  • 3D CAD proficiency and creation of 2D drawings Interpretation of 2D drawings
  • A thorough understanding of design for manufacture
  • A thorough understanding of manufacturing processes and their benefits and limitations, including wooden cabinets, metal fabrication and injection moulding.
  • The ability to focus on the details that are important to the customer and safety of the product.
  • Practical workshop skills.
  • Working knowledge of change management processes
  • You will have the ability to problem solve and present solutions based on sound engineering principals.
  • You will be proficient in a professional 3D CAD package such as Creo Parametric. You will be able to construct 3D solid models.
  • You will have the ability to interpret engineering drawings for parts and assemblies, for manufacture and quality control, these will be fully detailed with the required dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • You will have experience of using a PLM system with regards to document control and change management.
  • You will be able to construct jigs and fixtures using basic machine tools. You will be able bodied and able to lift items in accordance with Hamp;S regulations.

Job Conditions:

Martin Audio UK is situated in High Wycombe, with this site including Factory Production, Research amp; Development, Marketing, Sales, Service, Sourcing, and Central Functions (martin-audio.com).

This is a full-time position of 37.5 hours per week over the standard working hours of 8.45am to 5.30pm Monday to Thursday and 8.45am to 4pm on Friday. An hour is allowed for lunch Monday to Thursday and 45 minutes on Friday.
