The role

We are recruiting a junior/graduate mechanical engineer to join the team. As a mechanical engineer, you will be responsible for mechanical and product design to support the development of our product portfolio incorporating elements including cryogenic systems, vacuum systems and optoelectronics.

You will work in a cross-disciplinary team which includes quantum photonic engineers, mechanical engineers, optical physicists alongside business developers and product designers. The successful candidate will be involved in both internal research and development projects delivering technical support in mechanical design as well as involved in developing custom solutions for customers.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with senior engineers to conceptualise and develop mechanical designs, ensuring adherence to project specifications and industry standards.
  • Build, assembly and testing of new designs and systems.
  • Utilise computer-aided design (CAD) software to create detailed 3D models and technical drawings for various mechanical components and systems.
  • Conduct thorough analysis and simulations to assess the structural integrity, functionality, and performance of designed prototypes, making necessary adjustments for optimisation.
  • Participate in design reviews, communicate with cross-functional teams, and contribute innovative ideas to enhance overall product design and development processes.
  • Specialise in cryogenic design by selecting appropriate materials and thermal insulation techniques for components, ensuring the mechanical integrity and performance of systems.
