There’s flexibility for the role to be either onsite or fully remote, with occasional travel to our global HQ in Bristol, UK. However, if remote you must be based within 1 hour of UK timezone to allow for aligned working hours.

Why it matters

As a member of Cookpad’s Design Research team, you will be responsible for deepening our understanding of our users and investigating our most complex questions. You’ll contribute to driving the research roadmap and lead initiatives to deepen user understanding to fuel our product development. Working with Product Teams you will be an advocate for our users and their needs, championing them throughout every stage of development. You will also be an integral part of the growth of our expanding research practice, helping us to scale into a world-class team.

In your role you will

  • Act as a partner to product managers, designers, engineers and data analysts, to ensure that user-centred thinking is at the core of our product development process.
  • Design and deliver inspirational, action-oriented and professional standard user research using a range of research approaches, including qualitative and quantitative studies, user feedback, generative, and rapid prototyping.
  • Conduct qualitative research, including writing discussion guides, defining recruitment criteria, conducting interviews, and using ethnographic research methods.
  • Analyse, capture and share learnings, insights and design opportunities in an easy to digest, actionable format to relevant stakeholders and teams, producing learnings that both inform and inspire strategic decisions and design solutions.
  • Proactively identify gaps and opportunities for new research.
  • Share and spread user research best approaches and practices across Cookpad.
  • Work closely with product managers, country leaders, and community managers when needed, to understand local differences and nuances across our global users.

Relevant experience and mindset:

  • Proven experience of qualitative design research at a design consultancy, in product/consumer insights, or equivalent capacity.
  • Educational background in areas such as Anthropology, Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Service Design, Design Research, Journalism, Data Science etc or equivalent work experience.
  • Extensive experience with a variety of design research methods and tools such as: ethnographic interviews, expert interviews, analogous inspiration, diary studies, remote research, prototype feedback.
  • Experience in incorporating quantitative research is a bonus, including running surveys and/or segmentation studies.
  • You're passionate about Cookpad’s mission and eager to approach it in a human-centred way.
  • You’re confident and flexible as a team member, who loves sharing your knowledge, presenting your work and writing compelling research insights.


Nice to have:

  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Experience living abroad and/or in multiple countries.
