Job Description

Location: Twinkl HQ, Sheffield Annual Salary: 20,000-25,000 Contract: Permanent

Line Manager: George Mulroy

Recruiter: Michael Jordan

As an Insight Analyst at Twinkl you’ll use a combination of strong business and creative skills to comb our extensive data sets (billions of data points generated daily!) for exciting opportunities that we can, and should, capitalise on. These opportunities will take many shapes and sizes but could include:
- spotting missing content from our website that teachers are talking about on social media

- suggesting new and novel ways for us to be looking at data

- finding and highlighting trending events where we need to increase our offering

Partnering closely with Twinkl’s analytics network of data analysts and data scientists, and reporting directly to the head of data, you’ll primarily be a consumer of our extensive data reports; which range from revenue and subscriptions, to detailed customer behaviours, such as searches and downloads. In addition to your own ‘everyday’ opportunity spotting, you’ll also run our morning stats meetings where you’ll help create a data-first culture amongst our leaders, modelling how to use our data reports to spot valuable opportunities, whilst looking at daily searches.

Your day to day will involve the regular use of Tableau and Google Analytics; as well as Jira for project management. Although you won’t be expected to be an expert programmer/statistician, you’ll want to be a dab hand at Excel/GSheets, and be prepared to take on the challenge of using SQL at a basic level. Don’t worry if you haven’t used all of these technologies before, we’re great at providing training!

To succeed in the role, you will:

  • Strong creative mindset - you think outside the box to spot opportunities which others miss
  • Good business acumen - you’ll be focused on finding those opportunities which are well matched to business need
  • Excellent communication skills - you’ll be talking with a range of stakeholders, who may need some convincing to have the same level of enthusiasm for data that you naturally have
  • High executer - you don’t work to deadlines of weeks or even days, you see a problem and you solve it
  • Organisation - as the leader of our morning stats meeting you’ll be responsible for ensuring that they run to time, and that all actions have been followed up
  • Analytical mindset - as a consumer of data you’ll spend a lot of your time interpreting graphs, so a high level of data literacy is required

In this role, you will learn:

  • How to use Tableau/Google Analytics/Excel at an advanced level (as well as the potential to learn SQL and other programming languages if you’re that way inclined)
  • Stakeholder management - you’ll be working closely with senior leaders, UX designers and web devs; partnering with them to deliver concrete results
  • Advanced data literacy - converting numbers into tangible business value

You’ll work with:

  • George Mulroy (Head of Data) - Teacher turned data scientist, George graduated from Sheffield Universities Data Science Masters and has been at Twinkl ever since. He oversees data and analytics at Twinkl, and is particularly interested in how we use customer behaviour to drive website optimisations
  • The Data Team - Six data analysts and five data scientists who meet weekly to discuss all things data.

Requirements

We're interested in anyone who meets one, or a combination of the following:

  • Qualifications: Undergraduate or Masters degree in a quantitative or business-focused field (eg. maths, business studies), or, an alternative qualification or apprenticeship with a similar focus
  • Experience: 1+ years employed in a role with an analytical focus. This could be a formal data analyst position, a role with regular intermediate/advanced excel/SQL use or a managerial position with complex KPI reporting.

Benefits

Here’s a couple of the things that make Twinkl a great place to be:

  • A friendly, welcoming and supportive culture. We believe work should be fun and always put people before process.
  • Flexible working with opportunities to work from home.
  • Diversity, inclusion and belonging - our Employee Network Program includes working groups for LGBTQ+, Black and Minority Ethnic, Disabilities (visible and invisible), Women in Tech and Working Parents.
  • Continuous Professional Development (CPD) - Our ever-evolving program includes: Monthly progression reviews, Twinkl’s Management Scheme, commercial awareness training, leadership coaching quads, career chats and mentoring.
  • Plus, Westfield Health, 29 annual leave days per year (inc bank holidays), company sick pay amp; life insurance (after 2+ years serv
