FPGA Engineer (6 month FTC)

We have an urgent need for an FPGA Engineer to join the team on an initial 6 month contract which has the opportunity to go permanent. You will need to ideally have Vivado suit experience.

Starting as soon as possible

We are looking for an experienced FPGA Engineer to drive the development of the control for digital data flow through a wide-band phased array system architecture. Your role as an FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) Engineer will be to translate and implement algorithms and systems for Satcom terminals.

You will have

  • Digital communication system design experience from initial stage definitions to product release
  • Confident in working with the Vivado suit which is the latest Xilinx build system
  • A solid understanding of advanced FPGA architectures, high-speed data buses, e.g. JESD204, and low-speed buses, e.g. CAN and SPI
  • A working knowledge of RF front-end hardware and synchronisation

Education

  • BS, in Electrical, Communications, Digital, Microwave, or related engineering discipline
  • MS, or PhD. in similar field desirable

Responsibilities

As a key member of the team you will be responsible for

  • Driving the design and optimization of different blocks of phased array system
  • Design and implementation of different DSP blocks and functions
  • Lead the design of the proof of concept systems and prototypes for the next generation of equipment
  • Assist the design of RF circuitry, focusing on defining the Digital system requirement
  • Work on the design of automated test systems, test fixtures and factory test.
  • Design, develop, test and debug FPGA code
  • Analyse system requirements and determine DSP options and specifications
  • Propose algorithmic solutions for FPGA and/or embedded processor implementation
  • Design and implement the data formatting and DSP blocks for Analog RF-Digital Interface (Vita49 and/or eCPRI)

FPGA System

  • Considerable commercial experience in designing signal processing or communications products
  • Demonstrable experience in FPGA experience shipping a product, in Vivado + Revision Control, SysGen or C experience, generating bit files, synthesis including timing constraints/closure.
  • In-depth understanding of FPGA software engineering principles, and core computer science fundamentals.
  • Phased Array system implementation in FPGA
  • Practical knowledge of Python amp; knowledge of Matlab and Simulink
  • Experience with embedded processor cores
  • Hands on knowledge of hardware technology, including RF/Microwave, High-speed digital, communication systems, memory, or mixed-signal.
  • Familiarity with Scrum and Agile Software Development methodologies
  • Solid understanding of VHDL/Verilog and C/C++
  • Expertise with MPSoC/RFSoC amp; Xilinx design suite (Vivado, Vitis, Petalinux)
  • Radio data transfer interfaces and protocols experience (Vita 49 or eCPRI)
  • Significant experience of 3rd party IP integration and RTL development for high-speed digital interfaces and DSP blocks for terrestrial/non-terrestrial communications.
