Job Description

Material and Inventory Specialist

Location: Falkirk

Competitive package + half day on Fridays

More than half of the buses that you see on the roads in the UK are made by Alexander Dennis. Globally, there’s over 25,000 people every minute, of every day using our products. That’s a lot of responsibility we have for keeping the world moving.

At Alexander Dennis we design, engineer, build and support the widest range of market leading buses and coaches using low, ultra-low and zero emission technologies. We have extensive experience in vehicle supply and support across Europe, Asia Pacific and North America, with a near 50:50 revenue split between UK and international markets.

We are excited about the opportunities arising from the global push for lower pollution and better air quality. The UK Government as well as many others around the world have committed to aggressive but achievable decarbonisation agendas and at Alexander Dennis, we are ready to deliver the green buses needed to transition to cleaner transport.

We are looking for a highly analytical and solutions focused Materials and Inventory Specialist to join a newly created function within our established Supply Chain organisation. Reporting into the Group Materials and Inventory Manager, with a dotted line into the Head of Supply Chain for our Falkirk production site you will have a combination of ‘site’ and ‘group’ based activities.

First and foremost, you will be responsible for ensuring that inventories and days of stock are maintained at an optimum level and all transactions are completed in a timely manner. Furthermore, you will support and lead on inventory analysis activities for your site, as well as driving forward MRP optimisation and adherence to current and new inventory processes and improvement actions.

Why join:

  • You’ll have an interesting and technically challenging workload from day one, where you will have the opportunity to work alongside and learn from an experienced and established team of experts in the UK and globally.
  • It’s a dynamic, fast paced environment where no two days are the same, where you will have the opportunity to make the role your own and make a significant impact to efficiencies and Group profitability.
  • We’re looking for someone who is highly ambitious, with the capability at attitude to step up and take on exciting new projects and roles across the group wide Supply Chain organisation.
  • Career development at Alexander Dennis is not necessarily linear, so whether you want to progress in ‘Group’ Supply Chain, or perhaps your interests are in ‘Site’ Supply Chain, or Operations. Either way, you’ll have plenty of opportunities available to you.
  • Throughout your role, you’ll gain exposure to all parts of the business, enhancing your profile and future career opportunities.
  • As part of the USD $2.9bn NFI Group, you can be assured that there will be plenty of opportunities made available to you. This could be in the UK or any one of our global locations around the world, including Toronto, Hong Kong or Auckland.
  • On top of a competitive package, which includes progressive pay potential, bonus and pension, we also operate a half day on Fridays, giving you that much needed work-life-balance.

About you:

  • To be successful you will have demonstrable experience in a similar role, as defined in this advert where you have made a significant impact on key performance metrics.
  • Ideally you will be degree qualified (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline, along with a Supply Chain or Logistics related professional qualification. A Six Sigma and or Project Management qualification would be advantageous, although not essential.
  • Ideally your experience will be gained in another similarly complex global and multi-site manufacturing or engineering business.
  • Either way, it is essential that you have exceptional people skills, with the ability to influence and drive change across the wider organisation.
  • Through your strong communication stills, you will be able to maintain credibility with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, including suppliers. Furthermore, you will have the ability to manage problem suppliers to find mutually beneficial solutions to problems.
  • Highly analytical by nature, you will be comfortable working with large and complex datasets. More importantly however, you will be highly skilled at translating this data into clear management information to allow for business-critical decisions to be made.
  • You will be highly IT literate with advanced Excel skills and previous experience of getting the best out of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and or Material Resource Planning (MRP) systems. Ideally th
