Job Description

Material Planner

Location: Falkirk

Competitive package + half day on Fridays

More than half of the buses that you see on the roads in the UK are made by Alexander Dennis. Globally, there’s over 25,000 people every minute, of every day using our products. That’s a lot of responsibility we have for keeping the world moving.

At Alexander Dennis we design, engineer, build and support the widest range of market leading buses and coaches using low, ultra-low and zero emission technologies. We have extensive experience in vehicle supply and support across Europe, Asia Pacific and North America, with a near 50:50 revenue split between UK and international markets.

We are excited about the opportunities arising from the global push for lower pollution and better air quality. The UK Government as well as many others around the world have committed to aggressive but achievable decarbonisation agendas and at Alexander Dennis, we are ready to deliver the green buses needed to transition to cleaner transport. To allow us to achieve our goals, we are looking for a highly collaborative and pro-active Materials Planner to join established Supply Chain team at our Falkirk manufacturing site.

Reporting into the Materials Manager and working with a wide range of suppliers, you will be responsible for ensuring that materials are delivered on time, to an acceptable quality standard and within budget in line with the production schedule. As part of this, you will effectively manage any exceptions and material shortages, ensuring any material issues are communicated in an accurate and timely manner. This is an incredibly important role in ensuring that our production teams can meet build plans and deliver completed vehicles on time. In addition to this, you will actively contribute to and initiate actions resulting in improved working capital and inventory levels within the business.

Why join:

  • You’ll have an interesting and technically challenging workload from day one, where you will have the opportunity to work alongside and learn from an experienced and established team.
  • It’s a dynamic, fast paced environment where no two days are the same, where you will have the opportunity to work cross functionally with colleagues and suppliers towards a common goal.
  • You’ll take great pleasure in being able to see the tangible results as projects that you have worked on quickly become finished vehicles on the streets in your local community.
  • We’re looking for someone who has a continuous improvement mindset, who is able to come up with new and more efficient ways of doing things.
  • As a business, we have a excellent track recognising talent and offering opportunities to develop. Career development at Alexander Dennis is not necessarily linear; so, whether you want to progress in Supply Chain, or perhaps your interests are in ‘Procurement, or Operations. Either way, you’ll have plenty of opportunities available to you.
  • As part of the USD $2.9bn NFI Group, you can be assured that there will be plenty of opportunities made available to you. This could be in the UK or any one of our global locations around the world, including Toronto, Hong Kong or Auckland.
  • On top of a competitive base salary, pension, production bonus and life assurance cover, you will also receive a generous annual leave entitlement that increases with tenure. We also operate a half day on Fridays, giving you that much needed work-life-balance.

About you:

  • To be successful, you will have demonstrable experience in a similar role, as defined in this advert where you have made a significant impact on key performance metrics, such as:
    • Purchase Orders generated in specific time
    • Execution and achievement of HVS weekly
    • Execution and achievement of overdue orders
    • material shortages
    • Turnaround time of delivery discrepancies
    • Supplier performance
    • Reduction of excess and obsolete inventories
  • Ideally you will be qualified to HNC level (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline. A recognised Supply Chain or Logistics related professional qualification such as CIPS, APICS or Six Sigma would be advantageous, although not essential.
  • Your experience will be gained in another similarly complex, fast-moving materials environment.
  • You will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate with colleagues and suppliers. Furthermore, you will have the credibility to manage problem suppliers to find mutually beneficial solutions to problems.
  • Analytical by nature, you will be comfortable working with large and often complex datasets; more importantly however, you will be able to translate this into cle
