Job Description
Fair HQ is an early stage startup backed by Forward Partners. We've launched private beta of our tech platform to help companies embed Diversity and Inclusion across their business through data amp; scientific evidence.

As our first backend engineer, you will build our new backend and scale it over time. You will act as the first advocate of our infrastructure regarding our API and core application knowledge.
You'll be working closely with our CTO and the development team (data engineers and frontend developers), as well as the design team and CEO (who leads the product). We are a fully remote team your day will be a mix of Zoom calls, focused time, and shared collaboration using online tools. That said get ready for team retreat in cool locations around Europe and US.
What you'll do at Fair HQ
SHORT term - build foundations
- Build and maintain our own 100% custom built backend
- Maintain high performance and stability of our platform
- Work closely with our data engineers, science and design team to help come up with the best technical solutions to customer needs
- Investigate and estimate the amount of effort to build new features and help us prioritize them in the product releases
- Build new product features end-to-end from the technical spec, infrastructure, and backend to unit tests
- Collaborate with other developers, do code reviews and pair-programming
- Present your work and communicate your approach to teammates
- Work on 3rd party integrations using tools such as Tray.io
- Come up with new ways we can improve our product as well as our team
MID-LONG term - accelerate our impact
- Contribute to building technical vision behind Fair HQ
- Explore exciting new domains that can help us accelerate impact to the customers
- Work closely with data scientists and security engineers
- Build or contribute to foundations for machine learning/AI at Fair HQ
- Create your own team if you want to or support our CTO on building a great development team
Requirements
What will help you do the job well
- You're passionate about making our society more fair, diverse and inclusive
- You've built products from scrappy MVP to scalable infrastructure
- You have 5+ years of experience working for early-stage startups that scaled quickly
- You have backend experience with NodeJS and Typescript
- You can easily switch between high-level/long-term thinking and shipping features fast
- You can back up your ideas and approach and create clear documentation/specification of your work
- You're a self starter and love having full ownership, yet you're also a team player

- Frontend: TypeScript, React, Redux Toolkit, RSuite
- Backend: Javascript, NodeJS, Koa, Postgres, GraphQL, Strapi
- Security: Sqreen
- Testing: Jest, Cypress
- Infrastructure: Digital Ocean, AWS S3, Render, Netlify
- Tracking tools: Bugsnag, LogDNA
