Purpose

Our Delivery Risk Manager will add strategic value to the business by ensuring that the commercial and delivery risks across our client facing projects are well managed. You will refine our policies and processes relating to the way we identify, escalate and mitigate project risks, develop risk models, ensure that controls are operating effectively, and provide research and analytical support where needed.

Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, the Delivery Risk Manager will also work closely with the Chief Delivery Officer and members of the Delivery, Technology and Sales teams. It is a pivotal role with the ability to have a significant influence over the firm’s profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Own the overall risk management process for DMW.
    • Ensure that appropriate risk assessments are conducted to analyse potential project risks in terms of commercial risks, reputational risks, risks to the health and wellbeing of our teams, delivery risks and any integration/supplier risks that we may encounter on client projects. To support this, you will ensure clear risk assessment criteria are defined and relevant checklists are maintained.
    • Maintain risk logs and ensure that they are actively used to drive risk mitigation activities.
    • Tailor risk reporting to the relevant audiences including sales leads, project leads, delivery management and Management Board.
    • Prescribe appropriate risk mitigation activities. Collaborate with colleagues to make sure these are fully implemented and reviewed for effectiveness.
    • Regularly review of our risk management controls and systems - evaluate their success in the identification and mitigation of risks to identify areas for improvement. Design and implement any process, system, tooling, training or communications improvements.
    • Identify common risks and recommend risk avoidance activities. Prepare reports and present recommendations
    • Organise monthly risk committee reviews with senior stakeholders from across the business
  • Either personally perform, or lead colleagues to perform, a variety of risk assessments which include reviews of commercial risks (e.g. commercial constructs and gating, margin/revenue/cash flow risk, forecast accuracy) and delivery risks (e.g. achievability of outcomes/deliverables given the client environment/timings/team composition, potential relationship/reputational risk and potential impact on team health):
    • Proposal reviews
    • Project initiation reviews
    • Ongoing regular (monthly) risk assessments
    • Ongoing rolling (ad-hoc) deep-dive project reviews
  • Build risk awareness across the firm by providing support and training
  • Lead business continuity planning for client projects and DMW as a whole
  • Advise on crisis management when required. Develop appropriate and pragmatic contingency plans that can be used to manage crises.
  • Ensure Management Board are educated about the most significant risks to the business; ensuring leaders understand the risks that might affect their teams; ensuring individuals understand their own accountability for individual risks

Requirements

Essential

  • First hand experience of leading or directing IT consulting projects
  • Experience of working with large, complex projects and programmes of up to 50m budget, team of up to 50 people and involving multiple suppliers
  • An understanding of consulting delivery models (FP,Tamp;M, team month etc) and IT lifecycle (Waterfall, agile, hybrid etc).
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and control in a consulting context
  • Experience with assurance and reporting procedures
  • Experience of working in matrix environments, pulling together teams from across the business to support risk assessment activities
  • Analytical mind with problem-solving aptitude
