Job Description

Methods Analytics is currently recruiting for a Junior Data Scientist to join our team on a permanent basis. This role will include some work on client sites and frequent visits to our main offices in Sheffield and/or Bristol.


Please note due to current COVID restrictions this role will be remote working until restrictions have been lifted.

Methods Analytics

Methods Analytics provide strategic and operational intelligence concerning the activity, quality and safety of Healthcare services. Our team is comprised of highly qualified and experienced information and analytics specialists. Our focus is the healthcare market in the UK, however, we also work with a wide range of public and private sector clients including local and central government.

We deliver actionable knowledge on population provision, activity and outcomes to the public, commissioners, providers, policy makers and commercial organisations. Our work helps them base their decisions on comparable and transparent intelligence. We use a wide range of information sources and tools to ensure that our information is robust, and evidence based, and we work closely with stakeholders and the public to understand the type of intelligence they need from us.

Requirements

The Junior Data Scientist will Have a portfolio of responsibilities specific to their area of expertise and grade, it is expected that they will develop a set of skills, competencies and knowledge to operate effectively within their role. This role will work as part of the Methods Analytics Delivery team, actively learning about new methods and technologies while adapting to a fast-paced environment.

The Junior Data Scientist will:

  • Gain a workload which will be a blend of client assignments and internal company projects. They will be intimately involved in analytical projects that contribute to the evaluation of models and propose alternative solutions.
  • Be pitching new ideas, taking responsibility for their own code and supporting other team members with peer reviews.
  • Prototype solutions and work as part of a team to test, debug and reuse existing models and data pipelines.
  • Apply an analytical mindset to contribute to team projects and deliverables
  • Contribute to high-quality data preparation, visualisation and analysis
  • Demonstrate independence to develop, run and test code
  • Contribute to research and develop statistical learning models for data analysis
  • Contribute to company knowledge base and provide feedback on new knowledge artefacts
  • Contribute to the translation of business problems into hypotheses for analysis, utilising innovative techniques to address the defined hypotheses
  • Clearly and confidently present complex analytical results in a clear and simple manner to other team members
  • Keep up-to-date with latest technology trends
  • Provide face to face, telephone and written communications with all members of the team and other colleagues across the company
  • Represent the company and its interests as required at local and national events. Attend, present or support conferences and seminars

Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics or similar field or solid experience with data analysis
  • Solid understanding of data analysis, pre-processing and statistics with an analytic mindset.
  • Ability to produce effective visualisation
  • Knowledge of data management
  • Understanding of machine learning fundamentals
  • Proficient in writing code using scripting languages such as Python and R, and familiarity with their data science libraries and packages
  • They should have working knowledge of at least one programming language and be keen to learn new programming languages and tools to expand their technical skillset.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills including both written reports and verbal presentations, able to confer complex concepts in clear terms.
  • Ability to understand client requirements and translate them into solutions

Desirable Skills and experience

  • Experience with shell scripting language and command lines
  • Familiarity with machine learning applications
  • Understanding of Natural Language Processing
  • Understanding of big data technol
