The multi-disciplined, multi-skilled Facilities team is supported by a strong supply chain and specialist service partners. Sewell Facilities are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year via a Helpdesk which is part of our Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system.


Role Overview:

Reporting to the Facilities Management Team, the Caretaker will be based at Danesgate Primary School and will have overall responsibility for maintenance and porterage. The Caretaker will also ensure that all services are provided to a consistently high standard and assist the Facilities Management team in all areas required to meet the needs of both the business and the client.


Hours of work:

  • Split Shifts
  • Monday-Thursday, 6.45am-9.15am amp; 4.00pm-7.00pm
  • Friday, 6.45am-9.15am and 4.30pm-7.00pm
  • 27 hours per week


Reporting to the Facilities Manager/Facilities Team Manager, the Caretaker will be responsible for maintenance, porterage and cleaning services. The Caretaker will also ensure that all services are provided to a consistently high standard and assist the Facilities Management team in all areas required to meet the needs of both the business and the client. The Caretaker will need to work flexibly to meet the needs of the team and may be required to take part in the out of hours on-call rota system.

Key responsibilities:

  • Planned and reactive maintenance as required including utility monitoring and assisting the cleaning team where required
  • General maintenance and repairs to building fabric and associated equipment as necessary
  • Identification and reporting/repairing of defects and maintenance requirements
  • Porterage and caretaking tasks; including accepting deliveries, litter picking, weeding, removal of rubbish and the setting out of furniture to agreed timescales and standards
  • Supervision and induction of Subcontractors; including checking risk assessments amp; method statements prior to work commencement
  • Health amp; Safety duties; ensuring that the building is operated in a safe and legally compliant manner at all times
  • Client liaison; including communication with the Head Teacher / nominated deputy
  • Health, Safety and Environmental watchdog
  • Be a main key holder to the Site
  • Ensure safe pedestrian access especially during adverse weather conditions

    Skills amp; Attributes:

    • Have a trade background or good practical core skills together with previous maintenance experience
    • Have a flexible outlook towards hours worked (some out of hours working may be required)
    • Have working knowledge of current Health and Safety practice


    Desirable:

    • Joinery Experience
    • Previous working experience within a school environment
    • Be First Aid at Work trained
    • Hold a Valid UK Driving license
