Spotify's Technology Procurement function, part of our Platform Mission, is hiring an experienced analyst and/or data scientist with in-depth knowledge about public clouds and cost management. This function enables us to constructively support hyper-scale usage and growth in close collaboration with engineering, bridging the world of finance and tech. The mission enables our Ramp;D, procurement, financial functions and vendors to make well-informed decisions about infrastructure and managed services by providing insights and advice regarding how to use and develop our partnerships.
This role enables results-oriented bets within cost optimization, sourcing, capacity, cloud architecture, as well as understanding our unit economics. It is a rare opportunity, learning together with experienced analysts, aligned with Spotify’s engineering principles at the edge of cloud adoption. Spotify is digital native since birth and cloud-native for years at large scale. We also act as a lighthouse customer with several partners. This means new horizons are reached on a regular basis, where new practices are explored in a combination of ambiguity and high stakes.
This job contains technical aspects, such as describing cloud strategy and market offerings, working with our core and data infrastructure teams, cloud billing data, as well as our insights tooling. We have shown to work well as a distributed team, with playful and passionate colleagues as of now located in Stockholm, London and New York.What you'll do
  • Extract and analyze large scale data within cloud billing and usage, to support senior engineering and financial partners in decision making
  • Lead and contribute to continuous improvement of our self-service spend analytics, ensuring it advises engineering and product leads by highlighting meaningful metrics, patterns, and forecasts
  • Identify, establish and develop strategy with leads in cross-Spotify initiatives targeting usage optimization
  • Describe and execute opportunities for price optimizations and partnerships, including management of commitments (reserved instances), in close connection with infrastructure and cloud vendors
  • Provide technical assistance to internal teams seeking feedback on usage optimisation approaches, as well as collaborate with cloud providers within strategic interest groups
  • Be a company spokesperson for our optimisation efforts, aspiring for industry leadership within the cloud FinOps community
  • Maintain and share knowledge of relevant market developments within the domain
Who you are
  • Comfortable using data analysis / data science practices to engage senior engineering partners, both internally and with vendors
  • A specialized depth of expertise related to public clouds (AWS / Azure / GCP) and how to understand and optimize costs with a FinOps or cloud financial management lens. You like finding yourself being a go-to person when it comes to these initiatives
  • Having worked with pricing, TCO, or capacity planning in the past is a plus
  • Experience using data warehouses like Google BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, or other scalable data analysis platforms
  • Have skills to extract and analyze complex datasets using well optimized SQL queries, Python and/or RCan configure analytics platforms (for example Tableau) to prepare dashboards and reports
  • You are passionate about your craft and help others learn it. When facing challenges, you reflect on them and share your takeaways
  • Build sound relationships, consistently work with feedback, and clearly communicate expectations with team members and partners
  • Appreciate working with distributed teams and influencing all of strategy, tactics, and execution, in an inclusive manner
