Job Description
We are looking to add an experienced Power BI Developer to join our growing consulting team. You will work on client facing projects, so previous experience working in a consulting capacity is beneficial but not essential.
The role offers a diverse opportunity working with data across various domains, clients and projects. While your role will primarily involve Power BI development, you will also contribute and take responsibility for other data centric activity such as requirements capture, user research, data analysis, data engineering and BI environment administration.
We have an exciting and varied client list, that are located throughout the UK. Due to this, all applicants must be willing and able to travel and work away from home as part of this role. Our office is based in Milton Keynes but with remote and flexible working you can be based further afield!
Requirements
As a Power BI Developer, you will be required to deploy production-ready reporting and dashboard solutions for our customers. The day to day varies greatly depending on the need of the customer. To give you a good understanding of the types of duties associated with this role, we have outlined the below:
- Working with business analysts and clients to understand their data and reporting requirements
- Playing an active role in and leading requirements gathering workshop sessions with clients
- Working closely with key stakeholders to understand business logic and rules for reporting
- Creating wireframes and PoCs to capture the imagination of the intended users whilst apply good data visualisation standards
- Creating data models and datasets that can be used for both professional and self-service reporting
- Creating reports and dashboards using reporting tools within the Microsoft stack (mainly Power BI)
- Creating data visualisations to support the business in data storytelling
- Documenting data models, data sets and report specifications
- Working with data engineers and architects to ensure that underlying data repos reflect business need
- Testing the accuracy and quality of underlying data repositories to ensure they meet required standards
- Setup and administration of dashboards, reports and automated report refresh schedules
- Train self-service BI users and support the business in promoting self-service BI and the overall data platform through communications, collateral and training material.
We would like to hear from people with the following:
- Experience of developing reports and dashboards in Power BI
- Experience of connecting to multiple data sources and building datasets in Power BI
- Experience of using DAX to create custom data objects within Power BI
- Experience of setting up workspaces, reports, dashboards and scheduled refreshes in Power BI
- Experience of analysing data, generating insights and visualising data in support of business initiatives
- Understanding of administrating the Power BI Service tenant at global level
Experience in the following areas would be beneficial to the role:
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and working in an agile way on data projects
- Knowledge of other data tools within the Microsoft stack i.e. SSIS, SSAS, SSRS and AAS
- Knowledge of SQL and using it to query databases in particular SQL Server databases
- Familiar with the fundamentals of cloud computing in particular Azure
- Knowledge of Azure data services components and the role they perform
- Experience of using other data visualisation and reporting tools such as Tableau and QlikView
- Knowledge of Azure Data factory and using it for data orchestration would be a bonus
