Job Description

Job Title: In-House Counsel

Reporting to: COO

Location: Working from home: UK/ Europe preferred

Closing Date: Applicants will be considered on a rolling basis.

Starting Date: ASAP

Hours: Full time (part time min 4 days possible)

Salary: GBP 35k GBP 40k

Climate Bonds Initiative is an investor-focused NGO working to mobilise the $100 trillion global bond market for climate change solutions. We promote investment in projects and assets necessary for a rapid transition to a low carbon and climate resilient economy.

Our main work streams are green bond standards and certification, data and market analysis, policy and market development, communications and advocacy.

Climate Bonds is a fast growing, dynamic NGO driven by a big mission. You will be working within an organisation that is leading the development of innovative international climate finance solutions.

The Role

This is a unique opportunity to structure and drive the legal function within a high-profile, global Climate Finance NGO.

You will further develop innovative, efficient and thorough legal processes, address all our legal questions and coordinate expertise received from top-class legal firms.

Our partners are, for example, governments, banks and major philanthropic foundations. You will manage our legal interaction with these organisations.

You will be a key member of our passionate, hard-working, international team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Defining, developing and creating internal corporate legal structures
  • Coordinating expertise from top-class legal firms
  • Drafting, negotiating and advising on contracts
  • Setting up and managing our contract database
  • Ensuring compliance with GDPR across CBI
  • Coordinating the legal framework of our foreign subsidiaries, supported by local legal experts
  • Defining and rolling out legal and compliance policies across the organisation
  • Managing Company Secretarial compliance tasks

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Associate with at least 2 years post qualification experience
  • UK law qualification
  • Company commercial experience
  • Experience working under charity law
  • Knowledge of IP law desirable
  • Highly professional
  • Hard working self-starter
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and deliver high quality work
  • Excellent communication skills across many cultures and at all levels
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Attention to detail
