Job Description
This role is 100% remote for the foreseeable future. We will accept applications from anywhere in the UK.
Zaizi is looking for an Operations Engineer to join our support team and to work directly with clients using cloud based solutions. The successful candidate will be confident and self-motivated, and have a passion for technical problem-solving and system improvement. Communications skills are key, as you will be client facing.
Some client services may be contracted on a 24*7 basis. As such support will be undertaken as required on a Rota system which may require working outside of core hours and at weekends.
As an Operations Engineer for the SRE team you will:
- Provide 2nd and 3rd line support for Cloud Services/Hosted applications hosted in public cloud service providers.
- Provide 2nd and 3rd line support for Client Applications which are hosted by Zaizi’s clients.
- Support our Operations Centre team with 1st line if needed.
- Provide infrastructure/application support for applications hosted using automation framework tools.
- Systems Administration of new and existing containerised (Linux-based) environments.
- Writing/Modifying code/templates (e.g. kubernetes, cloudformation, terraform) to automate the management of production and non-production environments.
- Implement and administer reporting and monitoring systems ITIL Service Management processes (Incident Management, Alert Management and problem management).
- Analyse logs and source code to triage and troubleshoot issues and problems.
- Document process and controls for applications and services being supported.
- Create knowledge articles and hold knowledge transfer sessions with others.
- Proactively look for issues in applications that are being supported.
- Troubleshooting the system to identify issues and root causes.
- Configuration and release management.
- Analysing logs to spot trends and underlying issues.
- Documenting any new issue experienced with solutions and workarounds.
- Manage escalations within the scope of SLAs.
- Help writing transparent post-mortems to explain issues and learn from mistakes
Requirements
- Wide experience on AWS (Minimum to a level of associate of specialist level AWS)
- Previous experience working in Agile and DevOps teams
- Excellent problem solving and strategic-planning skills.
- Prior experience in providing support for web based applications
- A bachelor's degree in IT or equivalent experience.
- Excellent communication skills oral and written.
- Knowledge of an infrastructure/pipeline/application automation frameworks like Terraform, Ansible and Jenkins, AWS CloudFormation will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge and understanding of DBA and monitoring will be an advantage.
- Coming from a development background will be an advantage (Java, javascript, Python)
