Job Summary

Head of Pipeline is responsible for leading a team of Pipeline TDs across Jellyfish, ensuring show needs are met and that a strong and robust pipeline is in place, continuously strengthening to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow and experience for artists.

The Head of Pipeline is responsible for ensuring the team is developing and maintaining departmental tools for use in animation, VFX and other such projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with supervisors and production staff to identify and prioritize each project’s pipeline needs and help with scheduling, bidding and assigning tasks across all projects.
  • Work closely with supervisors and leads to establish existing issues and ways to improve workflows.
  • Ensure that workflows and tool development align with the overall pipeline strategy.
  • Work with pipeline TDs to create briefs of work outlining the design and goals of new development as well as identifying discrete tasks and release phases.
  • Ensure test and roll out processes are in place to facilitate the effective deployment of the pipeline.
  • Liaise with departmental TDs, supervisors and leads to ensure that new and existing departmental tools (developed independently of the pipeline team) meet Jellyfish’s coding standards and adhere to pipeline methodologies.
  • Develop the individual pipeline team members skills in both technical and non-technical areas to support their growth and value within the company.
  • Ensure that artists, supervisors and production are educated and trained on how to work with the pipeline tools and processes.
  • Act as a key stakeholder in identifying and outlining key technologies, processes and workflows to be researched to push the future development of the Jellyfish pipeline.

Requirements

  • Solid understanding of show requirements to identify Pipeline team tasks and objectives.
  • The ability to write and modify computer code to solve problems related to art or productivity as they arise on a project-by-project basis.
  • Leadership and Management experience.
  • Strong experience with using GIT for version control.
  • Solid understanding of VFX, Feature and TV Animation production pipelines.
  • Strong experience with Shotgun and Shotgun Toolkit as an end user and the Python APIs.
  • Strong experience with Python.
  • Strong experience with DCCs (Maya, Nuke, Houdini).
  • Experience with Jira for Agile/Scrum based project management.


Desirable but not essential

  • Experience with JavaScript/C++/other relevant programming languages.
  • Experience with SVN.
  • Experience with code management and deployment tools.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine for Final pixel and Virtual production workflows.
  • Experience with Bitbucket and the pull request workflow.
