Job Description

We are hiring for an Associate to work on Crime and Justice in our Government Practice. Faculty is working with some of the UK’s leading law enforcement agencies, and this role gives a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of using AI and data science to help frontline policing and improve service delivery.

Who we are

Faculty is an applied AI company that helps organisations who have the scale, data, and foresight to adopt AI into their business. We’re helping make AI real across society by providing a unique combination of strategy, software and skills to our customers: everything needed to successfully create value from AI. Founder-led and with over 50 PhDs, we’re a team of specialists with experience across healthcare, finance, government, retail, engineering, construction and a host of other sectors.

We believe that AI should be trustworthy, impactful, and beneficial to society. Those principles have shaped our work with more than 230 organisations across the public and private sectors where we’ve helped our customers use AI to make better decisions, faster. Thanks to our dedicated AI safety research programme, we’re constantly refining our systems to make sure our solutions stay at the forefront of responsible implementations of AI.

Our work across Government, and in particular Law Enforcement, is growing fast through new engagements and existing multi-year partnerships. To support this growth we are building out our delivery capability to work alongside our technical teams, particularly with subject matter expertise in policing and wider law enforcement.

Requirements

This role sits in our Government Practice, which helps UK and international government departments and agencies to utilise AI and data science, and improve public service delivery.

This role will have a particular focus on crime and justice, and you will get to work primarily on our large multi-year partnerships with UK law enforcement agencies, helping them to utilise modern data science. You will get to work alongside our data scientists and engineers, working as part of a project team to help design and deploy practical solutions to law enforcement challenges. As an Associate, you will help to identify use cases and opportunities, help law enforcement clients to work out where data science can help, and then help manage projects to successful completion.

As part of your day-to-day job, you can expect your key responsibilities to include:

  • Working directly with customers across law enforcement to deliver business value through data science and artificial intelligence
  • Managing individual workstreams to support the successful delivery of customer projects, including discovery and user research, analysis, designing and conceptualising solutions, and writing and presenting deliverables.
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Working closely with technical teams to ensure that projects run smoothly on a day-to-day basis
  • Owning standalone internal Faculty projects
  • Supporting business development through undertaking research and creating compelling proposals
  • Adapting to an environment where no two days are the same, and taking the initiative to make sure each day is better than the one before

This role does not require deep technical knowledge, but does require building enough understanding of data science techniques and their application in order to credibly communicate their value to the client, and be an effective member of project teams. More generally, you will need to be a natural problem solver, enjoy working closely with technical teams and engage closely with clients.

As part of being an Associate at Faculty, you will have the opportunity to build up this more detailed understanding of data science first-hand, and indeed you will optionally have the opportunity to take part in data science training and gain formal data science technical skills if you wish to.

This is an unrivalled opportunity to build a pedigree in the application of AI and machine learning to law enforcement, a field which is set to take off in the coming years.

We are a small business, and we need people who take the initiative. You will be given a high degree of autonomy, while still being given support as part of project teams, and formal opportunities to learn and develop. We are keen for someone who enjoys spotting opportunities, making links, and proactively making things happen.

Who you are

The role will particularly suit someone with UK law enforcement experience and an appreciation of frontline operational policing, as well as a rounded analytical skill set. This will help you to understand and map customer needs, engage effectively with law enforcement clients and frontline stakeholders, and design solutions which are practically implementable.

But beyond that, at F
