The client are early in their evolution, the commercially focussed venture of a highly successful public sector service delivery business, responsible for housing repairs, maintenance, environmental services, highways and engineering, motor vehicle repairs and parks amp; open spaces, managed on behalf of the Local Authority.
Coming into therefore what is essentially a start up business, but with a huge pedigree to leverage from, you will be building on the success and reputation of the original business to create opportunities for the new business, to deliver exactly the same services but into the commercial sector marketplace - with the greatest opportunity mainly being seen with construction services - highways and civils, although waste disposal is also considered an opportunity.
You will be guided and mentored by someone with a wealth of experience to help you get to the levels of success the client require as quickly as possible, but this role is for someone who is likely to need only a light touch leader and is confident of standing on their own feet and operating autonomously pretty rapidly. The support and guidance is there, but this job is for the person who knows already they can do this and it is their pathway for future leadership roles.
Personal style will be important here - this is a business that has genuine conviction in its values and is used to facing into a Local Authority. They are all about building a new kind of business that benefits everyone - that is inclusive and sustainable - one that balances profit with purpose. A sales role (for now) this might be, but there is nothing hard nosed about this company. Your style will need to fit in. or neither of you will be happy.
