Job Description


DC Thomson Media is looking for a creative, dynamic journalist to cover Dundee as part of The Courier and Evening Telegraph's new communities team.

Communities are central to the way we live our lives and everyone in them is affected by the decisions and behaviour of politicians, businesses and other individuals.

They also contain some extraordinary people who do amazing things and have interesting stories to tell.

The successful candidate will be able to get right to the heart of Dundee's diverse communities to uncover those stories and tell them in innovative ways.

They will do considered reporting on the issues that really matter to people in the city and be their voice in the newsroom the person they turn to if they have an issue or concern.

They should be a confident writer who is passionate about bringing stories to life on our websites using the latest digital techniques.

Working with reporters in Fife, Perthshire and Angus, this role will be The Courier and Evening Telegraph's eyes and ears in Dundee and an important point of contact for our readers.

Requirements

Key responsibilities include:

  • Building strong contacts and relationships with communities and organisations across the city.
  • Bringing in brilliant, off-diary stories that drive interest and engagement on our websites.
  • Embracing new skills and tools in the digital arena such as SEO, social media, video and audio.
  • Producing eye-catching headlines and social media posts to appeal to our audiences.
  • Creating digitally-optimised news content using a range of multi-media tools, with story choices being informed by data and insight.

The successful candidate must be a positive self-starter with knowledge of the issues affecting people in Dundee.

They should also have:

  • Great ideas and be able to share responsibility for meeting newsroom targets.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of IPSO regulations, the Editors' Code of Practice and GDPR.
  • A passion for working in a fast-paced environment.
