Job Description

DWP Digital are seeking an Operations Engineer Solaris to join their team in Newcastle. This role is home working.

Team: Department for Work and Pensions|Digital Group

Initial contracts will run for 5 months and offer a rate up to 450/day.

IR35 STATUS: Inside IR35. This engagement has been assessed by the public body as Inside IR35 legislation. Candidates would be required to operate through an umbrella company on this engagement.

This role requires Active SC (Security Check) clearance. Applicants require active SC clearance or the willingness to go through clearance before starting on site. Candidates with current clearance will be preferred.

Main Responsibilities

  • Initiates and monitors actions to investigate, analyses patterns and trends and resolves problems in systems, processes and services.
  • Provide 3rd line support for infrastructure technologies.
  • Maintain an awareness of potential future maintenance requirements, providing advice to the Senior Infrastructure Operations Manager on the possible implications.
  • Ensures that services and components meet and continue to meet all of their agreed performance targets and service levels.
  • Prioritises and diagnoses incidents. Investigates causes of incidents and seeks resolution.
  • Owns an issue until problem has been mitigated and/or resolved. Determines problem fixes and/or remedies. Provide fixes or work rounds to address issues as required.
  • Maintain the operational effectiveness of systems in their specialist infrastructure area.
  • Conducts ongoing maintenance of infrastructure. Resolve ongoing problems by developing and applying long term solutions. Support continuous improvements to existing systems.
  • Ensure that major incidents are escalated and communicated to stakeholders detailing the impact on the business. Facilitates recovery, following resolution of incidents.
  • Work with the Service Transition teams to ensure a smooth transfer of new systems and developments into the run area.
  • Manages, documents and implements changes based on requests for change in accordance with change control procedures. Supports the maintenance of infrastructure support technical documentation.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with all key stakeholders, including issues and planned changes within their specialist infrastructure area.
  • Support operational service reviews and service improvement initiatives, assessing changes for impact on Infrastructure Operations.
  • Carry out the provision of complex infrastructure builds/configuration.
  • Provide out of hours support for critical systems as required or on a scheduled rota basis
  • Promote infrastructure operations best practice, escalating potential issues or risks as appropriate
  • Aware of the user experience and how this impacts IT Operations
  • Product and system testing - supports readiness assessments prior to go live and signs off for implementation.
  • Support relationship management through the promotion of Governance and Risk Assurance Processes. Support continue improvement of Governance and Risk management techniques.

Specific Requirements

  • Experience of supporting Windows Operating Systems up to Windows Server 2019 including roles and features such as RDS and Failover Clustering and Active Directory, DNS, and Group Policy Management in an enterprise environment
  • Experience of supporting HPE BladeSystemArchitecture and Hyper Converged Infrastructure, specifically NutanixEnterprise Cloud including exposure to technologies such as AOS, Prism, , VMware, Hyper-V, and XenServer
  • Experience of developing and implementing proactive monitoring and alerting for critical infrastructure and services and of creating and developing scripted solutions (PowerShell, batch, vbs, Ansible etc)
  • Experience and successful track record of operation of products, services and techniques used to operate hosting services in large scale organisations
  • Experience of implementing, managing and supporting services that are aligned to the business strategy and operational requirements and successfully presenting the service portfolio/catalogue to non-technical audiences
  • Strong background in Service Management amp; Operations (particularly Request Fulfilment, Incident/Problem/Change Management) with experience of Service Transition
  • Knowledge of a service management framework (e.g. ITIL)
  • Demonstrable experience of independently supporting and maintaining products.
