We’re looking for a de-novo protein design scientist to help us navigate the combinatorial search problem that is protein design. To contribute to the engineering of game-changing biotechnologies you will:
- Use computational approaches to inform the design of large protein variant libraries gt;10^5 that will be built into genetic constructs using synthetic biology approaches.
- Model and assess de novo protein designs.
- Collaborate with wet-lab scientists to design protocols to screen and sequence large libraries.
- Work with data scientists and software engineers to build software to manage and analyze large datasets.
- Implement computational methods (including machine learning) to analyse large experimental data sets, extending our methods for predicting improved sequences to make and test.
Requirements
What we need:
You will have at least 4 of the following:
- A broad skillset and a keen interest in developing new skills.
- Strong understanding of protein biochemistry and structural biology.
- PhD or equivalent experience in computational protein design or related fields.
- Demonstrable expertise in de novo protein design backed up by rigorous experimental validation.
- Experience using protein modelling software Rosetta (or similar) to design de novo proteins.
- Experience writing software for bioinformatics and protein design using languages like Python and R.
- Experience working in interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience using computational modelling to drive experimental approaches.
What we’d like:
- Experience programming in Java, C++ or other languages.
- Knowledge and experience of synthetic and molecular biology and wet-lab techniques.
- Knowledge of data science approaches and expertise with Python packages: numpy, scipy, Pandas, and scikit-learn.
- Skills and interests in modern methods of machine learning using Keras, PyTorch and TensorFlow
- Aptitude for data visualisation.
- Experience working in industry.
