Job Title Senior Delivery Manager, Technical Delivery Portfolio

Reporting to: Head of Delivery

Direct Reports: (delivery teams for active assignments will report through this role, and there will be some line management responsibility as the department grows)

The Technical Delivery Portfolio is a growth area within Methods Group, focusing on Software Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Technical Architecture and Cyber Security. Our aim is to deliver profitable growth and public value by winning and delivering projects that support digital, data and technology transformation in our target markets (initially Central Government and Healthcare). The business has grown significantly over the past 2 years and is well positioned for further growth across several key accounts and reference projects.

Requirements

Job Purpose and Scope:

Our Delivery Managers are responsible for planning, delivering, managing and assuring projects and programmes undertaken by the Technical Delivery Portfolio; from inception to discovery, delivery, ongoing service management and continuous improvement.

This is a senior role that will contribute to building and managing the Technical Delivery Portfolio and its’ collateral (such as workforce, operating model, playbook, process), as well as delivery and assurance of project outcomes. There is also strong strategic emphasis for Methods on building permanent capacity and capability - with this in mind, supporting recruitment, retention, managing and mentoring of more junior colleagues is a key requirement.

Role:

Delivery:

  • Delivery Management of projects and programmes (including line management and mentoring of more junior roles, so as to deliver excellent outcomes)
  • Accountability for outcomes (plan, quality, budget, margin)
    • Internal amp; External projects
    • As well as delivering commercial outcomes, we are committed to building an effective internal operating model, playbook, and productization around common tooling, this role will also support that work
  • Support pre sales and new business development activity (e.g. by providing input to bids, including estimating, planning, and presenting)
  • Demonstrate excellent stakeholder and relationship management skills, promoting Methods’ brand and our delivery credentials
  • Identify, avoid, manage and solve project issues by managing risks, dependencies and quality effectively, responding decisively to escalations
  • Liaise effectively with Business Assurance (to ensure work aligns to internal processes and systems e.g. SalesForce, Sharepoint; as well as project tooling e.g. Teams, JIRA, Confluence etc)

Capacity amp; Capability amp; Enabling (these are more cross-cutting requirements so play a supporting role in:

  • Building the team (focusing on permanent hires in key roles Dev, Test, Ops, TA, DM; and supplementing with associates where needed for temporary requirements)
  • Supporting creation and sustaining the tech community (development plans, DevOps culture amp; communities of practice across software engineering amp; cloud amp; cyber); this will be in conjunction with other leadership roles, and include events, ‘enabling’ time, innovation, accreditation etc

Person Specification

  • Significant experience of successful digital transformation outcome delivery, as an accountable DM on multiple, complex projects and programmes involving technical delivery (e.g. digital transformation, software engineering; data, application or infrastructure migration; cloud engineering and devops)
  • Significant experience of using agile methodologies (one team and at scale ie multiple teams) in line with GDS principles and standards, using a range of methodologies (including Scrum amp; Kanban)
  • Strong management, mentoring and coaching skills demonstrable experience of forming/recruiting, leading by example, developing talents, empowering teams and individuals to progress and meet their potential
  • Significant experience and understanding of the culture, governance and practice within the Public Sector, ideally having worked within the Central Government sector
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills writte
