Job Description

More than half of the buses that you see on the roads in the UK are made by Alexander Dennis. Globally, there’s over 25,000 people every minute, of every day using our products. That’s a lot of responsibility we have for keeping the world moving.

At Alexander Dennis we design, engineer, build and support the widest range of market leading buses and coaches using low, ultra-low and zero emission technologies. We have extensive experience in vehicle supply and support across Europe, Asia Pacific and North America, with a near 50:50 revenue split between UK and international markets.

We are excited about the opportunities arising from the global push for lower pollution and better air quality. The UK Government as well as many others around the world have committed to aggressive but achievable decarbonisation agendas and at Alexander Dennis, we are ready to deliver the green buses needed to transition to cleaner transport.

With nearly 700 employees on the Scarborough site, across every possible job family from accountants through to vehicle builders, our Scarborough facility is an incredibly busy and diverse place to work. We are looking for an experienced, pragmatic and innovative Warehouse and Logistics Manager to join the team. In your new role, you will take full responsibility for the development and execution of a strategy to improve all aspects of Goods Inwards, Warehousing, Outsource and Parts Supply to build lines.

About your new role:

  • Firstly, you will conduct a full review of current warehouse and logistics operations and benchmarking this against external best practice to produce a strategy and action plan for improvements.
  • You will execute the strategy through the careful management and leadership of direct and in-direct teams; coaching, mentoring and developing as you go along. Your responsibility here will also include staff resource planning in line with operational budgets.
  • You will work cross functionally with colleagues to understand ‘ERP production’ requirements and implement and utilise the appropriate functionality within ERP/MRP systems.
  • You will liaise with planners/production to facilitate urgent deliveries to line.
  • As part of your continuous improvement journey, you will work closely with colleagues in Procurement to work with suppliers to develop more efficient transport and storage solutions to allow goods to be replenished on-line and the returned of stillaging back to the supplier seamlessly.
  • As a leader, you will help to define and improve workplace housekeeping standards, as well as ensuring adherence to all health and safety rules.
  • This is of course a non-exhaustive list and you could be asked to support with a number of related initiatives, not least deputising for the Head of Supply Chain as required.

Requirements

  • To be successful, you will have previous experience in a similar warehouse / supply chain / logistics leadership role as defined in this advert.
  • You will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability lead both direct and in-direct teams, as well as taking a hands-on approach to all areas of accountability.
  • As a leader, you will be comfortable with all aspects of people management, from recruitment and development, through to restructuring and performance management.
  • With a working knowledge of problem-solving methodologies and a passion for continuous improvement, you will influence and modify behaviours, driving forward a culture of total quality. You should be comfortable with other methodologies and ways of working, such as Just In Time (JIT), six sigma, Lean and or Kaizen.
  • You will be self-motivated, with excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise and re-prioritise in line with changing business needs.
  • Finally, you will be highly IT literate, being a competent user of Microsoft Office, as well as business intelligence/ERP systems.

Benefits

  • You’ll be assured of an interesting and technically challenging workload from day one, where you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact throughout the Scarborough site.
  • We’re at the forefront of automotive technology, with extensive experience of producing low, ultra-low and zero emission vehicles, meaning that you will be helping to contribute towards the de-carbonisation of the environment.
  • You’ll take great pleasure in being able to see the vehicles that you and the team have worked on become finished vehicles on the streets in your local community.
  • Alongside improving your core warehouse and logistics skills, you will also gain exposure to other parts of the business, in turn developing your future career prospects.
