Job Description

Oxbotica - We are a high tech team of people looking for a Software Engineer with Linux and automation prowess.

Joining an existing Software Infrastructure team as a Software Engineer will see you engage with a group of people from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds. We maintain an inquisitive mindset where all questions are valid and each member of the team has a responsibility to support and guide all other members as we work towards Universal Autonomy.

With secure funding and commercial clients, Oxbotica provide full stack autonomous software movement solutions. Any environment, any time, any vehicle. The way we move people and goods will change forever. Software is the beating heart of this transformation.

Oxbotica enables vehicle autonomy by engineering the software that drives them, with total freedom from external infrastructure dependency. Our software brings autonomy to all vehicles, in all places at all times. Specifically, the Software Infrastructure team establishes the processes plus the build and deployment systems that enable a large team of software developers, commissioning and testing teams members to work together to deploy and test on our growing fleet of vehicles - they're "making the machine to make the machine".

If there is such a thing, a typical day may involve:

  • Designing and developing solutions to automate and streamline the deployment of our autonomy platform across a range of systems
  • Evangelising appropriate "best practice" for development, testing, code review, tooling amp; deployment
  • Building tools to monitor stability and performance of deployed systems
  • Collaborating with the Deployment Team to discuss features and tooling needed to support them in managing deployed computers across the vehicle fleet
  • Contributing to maintaining a development roadmap

Requirements

We think you will need:

  • A solid understanding of Linux administration
  • Scripting skills in your favourite language (we use Bash amp; Python)
  • A "can-do" attitude to new tools/techniques/platforms, tempered with awareness of the need for resilience amp; stability
  • A passion for continuous improvement: identifying things that cause friction, and proposing amp; implementing changes (small or large) to make them better

Extra kudos if you have:

  • Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment skills
  • Exposure to Ubuntu/Debian packaging
  • Docker container design and deployment
  • Cyber security appreciation
  • Low-level Linux kernel knowledge
  • Building knowledge for multiple platforms or cross-platform
  • Experience developing and deploying with System Configuration tools
  • Modern C++ development experience
  • Networking experience

Benefits

Our successful Software Infrastructure Engineer will enjoy:

  • A salary of between 50,000 and 65,000
  • An annual salary review
  • A salary exchange pension scheme
  • A wellness bonus (a payment of 300 annually to be spent on keeping your mind and health in a positive and productive state)
  • Inclusion in our Company Share Scheme
  • 25 Days annual leave plus 8 days bank holidays; as long as you promise to come back!
  • Regular one-on-one sessions
  • Bi-monthly show and tell sessions
  • TechScheme (Technology purchase save scheme)
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Yearly funded flu vaccination programme

Flexibility

We create the conditions to help you do your best. We do all we can to create opportunities for everyone regardless of personal circumstances. As part of this commitment, we offer a variety of flexible working arrangements including:

  • Part time working
  • Remote working
  • Extended parental leave
  • Unpaid sabbatical

We work 37.5 hours a week, Monday - Friday around core hours of 10:00 - 16:00. This is enough for most; but if you require any extra flexibility we will do what we can to support.

Diversity and Inclusion

We are on a journey to enable all vehicles to do more - we need unique people to get there.

Knowing that diversity drives innovation, brings different approaches, ideas and points of view, we embrace individuality amp; inclusion and are committed to an environment where everyone irrespective of background, can be the best they can be.

We celebrate building a culture where difference is valued. We are universal - Universal Autonomy.

Help us solve one of the world's greatest engineering challenges by being yourself.
