Job Description

Digital Surgery is a data-driven company implementing cutting-edge AI technology, computer vision, and augmented reality to the operating room (OR) and surgical training. Our goal is to deliver safer surgery around the world. The DS1 is our first OR device, allowing surgeons, OR team members, and trainees to securely access videos of their procedures shortly after surgery.

The device uses advanced AI algorithms that enable automatic processing and uploading of videos. Our surgical training platform is the award-winning Touch Surgery application that provides safe and accessible training for surgeons and other health care professionals.

You will be part of our Studio Team, producing content for surgical training and simulation on our Touch Surgery app and through immersive technologies. You will work closely with modellers, animators, 3D artists, our pipeline team as well as our medical supervision team of surgeons and anatomists, developing rigs for visually stimulating and anatomically correct animations and simulations and help develop/maintain new and existing rigging/animation tools.


Responsibilities

  • Rigging a variety of props, mechanical devices, patients and anatomy interactions
  • Development and maintenance of rigging and asset workflows and tools
  • Create rigs that allow for animation of very realistic anatomical processes, such as incisions and deformation of soft tissue
  • Support and maintain existing rigs and drive towards standardization
  • Working closely with the Medical team and Simulation Artists towards efficient production of high quality and accurate medical simulations
  • Collaborating with the Pipeline team to create pipeline friendly rigs and workflows
  • Realtime rigs ready for VR/AR/MR applications
  • Debugging rig related issues with animation and creating solutions
  • Work/publish rigs in accordance with our pipeline to ensure rigs are easy and re-usable for multiple projects
  • Take ownership of rigs, creating from start to finish including maintaining or updating with animation feedback over the course of a project.

Requirements

  • Commercial Junior to mid level experience in rigging for VFX, games and / or visualisation
  • Interest in organic / anatomical 3D asset creation
  • Intermediate user of Maya/comfortable with rigging techniques
  • Python scripting skills or interest to develop in the role
  • Good understanding of animation pipelines and the processes involved from the conceptual phase to implementation
  • Technical understanding of modeling, rigging, animation
  • Interest working on VR/AR/MR projects
  • An interest in human anatomy
  • You are self-motivated, value your autonomy, though you love working alongside and with a great, ambitious team
  • You are a great communicator, who is highly organised, with a keen attention to detail



Nice to have

  • Unity experience or rigging for real time applications
  • An interest in the mechanics of human anatomy, and medicine as a whole.
  • Experience/interest in gaming and interactive applications and/or design.
  • Experience/interest in digital education.
  • Experience/interest in medicine and/or medical animation.
