  • Location: This role will be undertaken from home initially until we re-open our head office. The expectation will then be for the post holder to work 2 days based in the office (Leicestershire) and 3 days working from home.

The opportunity

IOSH is currently recruiting a Senior People Business Partner on a 12-month fixed term contract. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior People Business Partner is responsible for providing senior HR business advice to the Senior Leadership Team and the effective leadership of the People Service.

The role

In this incredibly varied, challenging and rewarding role, you will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team and business management group to develop and drive the people agenda. The role is a generalist role and is responsible for all People processes, procedures, and innovation.

You will be a skilled and experienced manager, overseeing a team of six, with four direct reports. The People service specialises in HR operations, Organisational Development and Equality Diversity and Inclusion.

To be successful in the role, you must have the ability to provide both strategic and operational support to business by providing strategic and operational guidance and direction on all People matters. You’ll promote a high-performance culture by partnering with Directors and Senior Managers to support the effective delivery of people management processes and strategy. Using your knowledge of HR best practice and employment law, you’ll provide sound advice and guidance on complex casework and develop and implement proactive people solutions and first-class practices, covering all aspects of HR, from attraction and recruitment to employee engagement and organisational change.

The person

You’ll be a passionate and dedicated People professional, with a good understanding of employment law, a proven track record of delivery of people agendas, experience of successfully managing and motivating a team and managing budgets.

The successful candidate will be customer focussed with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, influencing and challenging where appropriate. You’ll be determined, resilient and have a customer focussed approach in the delivery of people-related projects and consistently strive to improve operational efficiency.

Knowledge criteria:

  • Good up to date understanding of present and future employment legislation.
  • Strategic understanding, and operational delivery, of people agendas and first-class practices covering attraction, recruitment, performance management, employee engagement, talent management and organisational change and development including culture change and development.
  • Understand financial strategies, including managing budgets, controlling expenditure, interpreting financial reports and understanding approaches to procurement.

Skills and abilities criteria:

  • Negotiation skills to be able to broker solutions in a wide variety of scenarios and the courage and ability to challenge practices where necessary.
  • Customer focussed with the ability to build a strong business relationship with senior managers, understanding business requirements and identifying appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to challenge, influence, negotiate and do things differently with positive business benefits.
  • Analytical skills, with the ability to analyse and understand data and information and to use creative thinking to find solutions to problems.
  • Able to work collaboratively and build relationships with ease and the ability to influence people at all levels both within and beyond the organisation.
  • Being responsible and accountable - motivation to achieve outcomes by demonstrating resilience and determination by taking personal accountability.

Experience criteria:

  • Experience of leading and inspiring a successful People Team in a people and service focused organisation.
  • Experience of effectively challenging and influencing at senior manager/Director level.
  • Experience of managing change and leading on People projects with successful implementation.
  • Experience of developing and embedding peoplefocused strategies to deliver business objectives.
  • Experience of operational management by setting targets and KPIs, managing resources, and monitoring and measuring outcomes to establish operational effectiveness, efficiency, and excellence.
