  • Start Date: April 2021

Introduction to PensionBee amp; the role

For far too long, pensions have been difficult to understand. PensionBee is on a mission to fix things by making pensions simple and engaging. We do this by helping customers move into a modern, mobile pension with PensionBee. Since starting out in 2015, we’ve built the UK’s fastest growing and most loved pension brand. From a clear and simple transfer journey, to human support when only a human will do, we’re forever fighting for our customers!

PensionBee’s team is just over 150 people, with around 20 working in technology. We’re really proud of the culture that we’ve built, which springs from a vision of changing society for the better, and provides an open and supportive environment for everyone to bring their full personalities to their roles, developing their skills doing fulfilling work.

We’ve opened up this Developer Experience role, reporting into the Head of Systems and Infrastructure, to ensure that our software engineers are able to get the most out of their tools and technical infrastructure. This stretches across the complete development lifecycle, from tool selection and initial setup, to configuration, usage and upkeep of tooling. This role will ensure the infrastructure for the website, the mobile app and our business-facing systems is properly maintained, including the development pipelines that support these applications. By making our tooling and support systems powerful, stable and easy to use, this role will have a strong positive impact on team productivity, and help us make pensions simple for all of our customers!

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the technical team’s tooling supports their work as best it can, including bringing in new tooling and suggesting changes where appropriate
  • Maintain existing developer workflows including but not limited to our GitHub-driven pipelines and CI/CD systems
  • Research, engineer, and experiment with new ways to improve developer tooling
  • Be a point of contact for all developer tooling, ensuring consistent best practices across the whole team
  • Work with Head of Software Delivery on optimising the role of tooling in product development projects, by implementing tooling where required
  • Take a role in projects related to system scaling, along with the Head of Systems and Infrastructure
  • Aid with impact assessment, build and testing on software upgrade projects
  • Where required, pair with the developers on technical spiking and prototypes using new libraries or tooling

Requirements

The key attributes and experience we are looking for are as follows:

  • Love for the quality of your work and attention to detail
  • Enjoys working in a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with designers, other developers and business analysts on projects
  • 3-4 years experience in technologies relevant to developer experience
  • Confidence with best practices, patterns and techniques in software development, but also a love of learning and personal development
  • Clear written and spoken English

Equal opportunities

We welcome all candidates and are proud to have been awarded Employer of the Year at the Financial Adviser Diversity in Finance Awards 2020. We believe the right drive is often more important than the relevant experience or degrees. So if you have an interest in the role and are passionate about what we do, get in touch.

We want everyone to be able to access the same opportunity, and some people might need extra support to have this access. If there’s an adjustment we can make that would help you perform to the best of your ability during the application process, like using a computer during a task instead of writing by hand, or booking in time for a longer interview, please let us know.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary, end of year bonus and equity scheme
  • 25 days annual leave, 5 extra days for parents of children under 18 and generous Maternity, Paternity amp; Adoption Leave.
  • Perkbox, UK Healthcare Cash Plan and Income Protection Insurance
  • Regular company-wide sessions: CEO Session, Show amp; Tell and Lunch amp; Learn, giving you an opportunity to share your ideas and learn about other areas of the business
  • Regular socials: Cross-team brunches, Book Club, Pub Quiz, Parties and more!
  • A warm and motivated team working to make a real difference for our customers
