What does the job entail?

As an Engineer I, you will actively contribute to the planning of work and the development of features. You will proactively pick up features, seek guidance and support when needed to complete them, and be comfortable architecting and delivering simple features in new contexts.

If you're entrepreneurial in spirit and are keen to join a nimble team where you'll be challenged and can make your mark, this role is a perfect fit. On top of that, we value learners and we make regular time for self-improvement and experimenting with tech.

We're passionate about technical excellence and have established best practices clearly documented in our handbook. You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to improving how we engage with clients and deliver our work.

For us, technology is a creative tool to solve real-world problems. That means we choose the best tools for the job and don't limit ourselves as a company. We use Ruby on Rails, Node.js, React, and various database technologies including PostgreSQL and Clickhouse, and we expect all our engineers to be keen on learning new technologies. Automation is critical for moving fast, so we make sure there is a CI/CD pipeline set up to build, test and release (and learn!).

You will need to be comfortable sharing your knowledge and skills with others. We’d love to hear some examples of helping team members.

Experience we’re looking for

While we will look for you to have experience in these things, if you don’t have one of these don’t let that stop you from applying.

• Some commercial coding experience working on both frontend and backend (or full-stack) projects.
• Written code with tests
• Worked with databases
• Worked with APIs
• Delivered in an agile environment
• Debugged technical issues in a live environment
• Being self-motivated to solve technical problems swiftly and creatively
• Drive to deliver outcomes for users
• Evidence of self-development we value keen learners
• Desire to mentor others
• Worked in an environment that has a strong sense of good software development practices e.g. Single-Responsibility Principle, good test coverage, Don’t Repeat Yourself etc.

Optional experience

• Building products with Ruby on Rails
• Building frontend applications with React
• Agile practices such as Scrum, XP, and/or Kanban
• Pair programming
