Job Description

Your opportunity to join the team behind the UK's leading virtual reality experience and help build a scalable, lean and tech-enabled finance function. Over the next 18 months, OTHERWORLD is expanding from 1 to 4+ sites and growing from 30 to 150 people. We are building out a finance function to support this growth.

You will be the second finance hire and will work closely with the Head of Finance. You will be the engine room of finance, enabling the business's expansion to new sites across the UK and internationally, and championing financial discipline across the company.

It is an exciting role with the scope for long-term progression for the right performer. You will like working through problems methodically, and love organisation. We are looking for someone ambitious, who is keen to develop a career in finance and preferably has experience of working in a start-up or hospitality business.

As Finance Assistant, you'll be based in our East London office, working directly with and reporting to the Head of Finance.

You will:

  • Manage and perform daily bank reconciliations
  • Work closely with site General Managers and Head Office purchasing managers to ensure receipts and invoices are submitted in a timely manner
  • Own the Accounts Payable function and reconcile supplier statements
  • Set up weekly payruns to ensure suppliers are paid on time
  • Process monthly payroll and keep organised records
  • Perform all payroll related reconciliations
  • Support month-end balance sheet reconciliations
  • Provide administrative support during budget preparation
  • Perform ad-hoc finance analysis and reporting when required
  • Perform quarterly VAT return reviews
  • Research new systems, processes and technology products that will help support an efficient finance function as we scale

  • 1-3 years experience in a finance role
  • Good knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping procedures
  • Relevant qualification or part-qualification (e.g. AAT, part-qualified CIMA etc.)
  • Proficiency in creating spreadsheets and using financial functions, ideally familiar with Google Workspace and Google Sheets
  • Experience with Xero or equivalent accounting systems
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisation skills
  • Character and excitement to work in a start-up environment
  • Strong passion for hospitality, gaming and technology

  • This role is available on a full-time basis
  • Salary of 26-30k depending on experience and aptitude
  • Potential for performance-related bonus
  • Share options depending on length of service
  • Discounts on VR, food and drink in our venues
  • Support for study days and exam fees depending on level of qualification
