We are looking for an experienced, highly technically competent and practically minded Electrical Manufacturing Engineer to join the established team in Scarborough, supporting Operations by achieving the Plant’s Delivery, Cost, Quality and Safety goals by the introduction of Continuous Improvement Processes across the manufacturing range. About your new role:

  • Define and implement best practice processes and SOP’s (standard operating procedures) which lead to lower cost, increased production efficiency which do not affect design integrity or quality.
  • Determine any new material and process information required in line with current and future legislative and environmental requirements.
  • Liaise with design engineers and others to ensure that products are best designed for manufacture (DFM), including suppliers.
  • Estimate in advance electrical COP (cost of production) hours for each individual contract (by area and workstation). Verify times as required.
  • Establish and verify electrical manning and capacity needs for all products and all manufacturing areas. Update the takt charts.
  • Prove / assess / observe times for new operations.
  • Provide electrical line build support for all products and processes. Resolve daily build issues, working in conjunction with design engineering, quality and production.
  • Document daily electrical build issues on the ‘engineering issues log’ highlighting areas of concern / improvement.
  • Issue appropriate build information to Manufacturing Team Leaders.
  • Assess and ensure all tooling, production hand tools, handling tools, patterns and jigs are ordered and manufactured in a timely manner in readiness for production.
  • New factory / line set-up, working with facilities manager and line managers.
  • Examine in conjunction with line managers handling, storage and logistics methods for in house manufactured components.
  • Evaluate and document line trials.
  • Develop Lean production techniques and standardise working practices.
  • Promote continuous improvement in conjunction with the area managers. (6S, elimination of waste etc.)
  • Provide electrical workstation routings for all new contracts.
  • Establish ‘Build Record Card’ electrical information for all future contracts.
  • Aid with field issues that involve electrical and electronic systems issues.

Requirements

  • To be successful you will be qualified to HNC / degree level (or equivalent experience) in Electrical Engineering, along with a demonstrable track record of success in similar role.
  • Ideally your work experience will be gained in automotive, in a troubleshooting role preferably in the PCV or HGV sector.
  • Be able to provide a demonstrated record of manufacturing process analysis and improvement projects.
  • Computer literate familiar with Microsoft Office packages.
  • Competent in reading electrical schematics.
  • Able to demonstrate capability on 3D CAD system for interrogation and minor design changes advantageous.
  • Ability to work individually as well as in multi-disciplined teams.
  • You will be self-motivated, with excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise and re-prioritise in line with changing business needs. On occasion work outside of core hours and undertake offsite visits as required.
