Job Description

Here at Opensignal, we're looking for a great QA to lead our QA function and, in doing so, help transform the global mobile communications market. In addition to leading and driving the QA function within Opensignal, you'll also get your hands dirty! The QA Lead will be very much a hands-on role.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a Lead QA Engineer to join our Engineering team to contribute to a blended role of test automation and technical manual testing. You'll be helping drive and develop a world-class QA function for Opensignal whilst continuing to have a hands-on role within the team.


What will you be doing?

Here's the significant bit! You'll be Owning the QA process across all projects to maintain the quality of our apps, data collection and analytics dashboard. You will be working in a fast-paced environment within a cross-functional team of Engineers, Data Scientists and Product Managers.


As our Lead QA Engineer, you'll be

  • Leading and mentoring the existing QA team members and coaching them in quality best practice
  • Conducting 1-2-1 meetings and coaching and mentoring your team member's with their personal development using our career development framework
  • Overseeing all aspects of quality assurance, including establishing metrics, applying industry best practices and processes to ensure our quality goals are met and exceeded
  • Working closely with our squad leads to drive a shared vision of what good quality looks like
  • Establish and evolve formal QA processes, ensuring that the team is using industry-accepted best practices.
  • A champion of quality, from the start You'll be expected to get involved in the user story definition process and write test scenarios
  • Encouraging the team to bring a QA perspective to planning sessions and helping to ensure test effort is taken into consideration
  • Helping to develop and extend our automation test packs to reduce manual testing.

Enacting change where necessary. You'll have the ability to propose changes in tools and processes to improve the team's effectiveness and lower the risk associated with the delivery of the software.

Requirements

What do we need from you?

As a Lead QA Engineer, we expect you to have previous experience in quality assurance processes and methodologies.

  • Experience being part of a cross-functional team, using agile methodologies
  • Experience in measuring and improving quality within a team
  • Experience in mentoring and coaching QA Engineers on best practice; some exposure to line management would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Experience in identifying gaps in test coverage and use appropriate tooling to improve the gaps
  • Experience testing applications end-to-end, including isolated tests around the UI, API, database and AWS infrastructure
  • Solid understanding of best practices such as TDD, BDD, CI/CD and the Practical Test Pyramid
  • Experience in testing web and mobile apps on Android devices/emulators
  • Experience with proxy debugging tools such as Charles Proxy
  • Experience with building a framework from scratch using object-oriented languages: Java or Python and BDD style
  • Good understanding of CI/CD methodology and tools such as Jenkins
  • Experience in working with various QA tools inclusive of defect tracking systems, Test management tools and Cloud-based platforms and tools
  • Basic knowledge of SQL is essential
  • Telecommunications knowledge (desirable)
