Freelance Employability, Skills and Careers Strategist

We seek strategists to provide strategic direction and development of programmes that excite young people about potential careers, maximise their skills, help them engage with real employees and gain amazing experiences of workplaces.We’d love to hear from people with experience of one or more of the following:

    • Careers coordination / leadership within a school or FE environment
    • Careers coaching / guidance with young people
    • Widening participation experience within an HE environment
    • Training and development experience with 16 24-year-olds
    • Experience creating partnerships with grass-roots organisations to deliver outstanding careers and skills development programmes
    • Early Careers programme development and delivery
    • Working with specialist groups of young people aged 16 24 e.g. SEND, Looked after Children, Care-leavers.

The role

Main tasks:

  • Use extensive knowledge of the employability, skills and careers landscape in the UK to identify potential priorities and gaps and provide strategic recommendations for clients.
  • Support clients to prioritise objectives for their engagement with young people.
  • Analyse clients’ existing programmes and recommend opportunities to maximise engagement and return on investment.
  • Excite clients about the opportunities to support young people’s employability by developing creative ideas for programmes based on best practice.
  • Create detailed plans for programmes and where required create content that is linked to relevant curricula / benchmarks (e.g. CDI Framework, Career Education Standards, Gatsby Benchmarks).

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring a high standard of quality and robustness across all content and programme development.
  • Working closely with the client and We are Futures teams to ensure all expectations and requirements are met.
  • Excellent project delivery and time management.

Requirements

  • A strong strategic thinker, who can describe challenges, identify insights and build logical and creative solutions.
  • High levels of understanding and experience of the employability, skills and careers landscape, its key challenges, priorities and best practice.
  • Ability to translate client-facing work-related information and make it accessible and engaging for young people.
  • The ability to deliver projects according to a set brief.
  • Passionate about the employability development of young people and youth engagement.
  • Desirable: Has hands-on experience of delivering programmes with young people using a variety of learning techniques.
