Job Description

The role could also be based at our Dorking office

At Frazer-Nash we pride ourselves in using cutting edge engineering methods to help our clients address high value technical challenges. We are growing, and are looking for talented engineers to join us in supporting our clients by providing: system and detailed performance assessments; explosive atmosphere management and ventilation services; and support to the design, operation, substantiation and safety justifications of fluid systems and components. We are part of the energy business unit, which supports clients in a wide range of industries, including the hydrogen, nuclear power, renewable power, turbomachinery, defence, aviation, rail and government sectors.

You’ll enjoy working as part of a close-knit and capable team, whether working with colleagues to deliver a range of projects to external clients, or working alongside clients in embedded roles. While proactive in developing your skills and delivering your work, you won’t hesitate to reach out to colleagues for advice and support when needed.

Working within a group of colleagues, you will be responsible for:

- Technical work:

+ Delivering high quality technical analysis of flow and process systems’ concepts and designs

+ Analysing and understanding challenges with existing plant and defining roadmaps for corrective actions

+ Appraising and quantifying the hazards and risks associated with gas leaks/dispersion, blast or fire

- Project leadership:

+ Managing projects in accordance with our ISO-9001 accredited processes and acting as technical lead

+ Working with colleagues within and outside your disciplines to deliver multidisciplinary projects

+ Authoring and verifying technical deliverables

- Consultancy:

+ Helping shape our service development plans and strategies to develop, tailor and align skills and experience to the market and maximise the value we offer our customers

+ Developing new business by identifying and engaging with prospective clients, and representing Frazer-Nash at conferences and seminars

+ Responding to leads and enquiries, and writing bids

Our projects are very diverse and can last from a few weeks to many years of sustained support. You will typically be involved with multiple projects at any one time, meeting and communicating with customers to understand their requirements and managing your project to deliver the desired outcomes and insights. Frazer-Nash empowers its staff to manage the delivery of the project themselves at an early stage in their careers. Reporting to your Group Leader, you will be accountable for your own work, but also help support others in the team.

Our people are at the very heart of what we do, they are the reason our clients work with us to solve some of their greatest challenges. At Frazer-Nash, we want all of our people to feel they belong, confident in the knowledge that we value and respect the commitment they have made by entrusting their careers and expertise to us.

We are committed to fostering a working culture that brings out the very best in our people, regardless of their circumstances, identity or background. We want our people to be themselves, feel empowered to achieve their personal and professional goals, and know that we respect the unique value they bring to the company. In support of this, we encourage thoughtful behaviours and work to foster a collaborative working environment.

Requirements

The successful applicant will meet the following minimum requirements:

  • You’ll be able to use your solid understanding of practical thermo-fluid mechanics, gained from a Master’s Degree in Engineering, a PhD, or a similar level of training, to perform fluids and thermal hand calculations, system level flow assurance assessments and detailed fluids and thermal analysis.
  • You’ll have experience of using your skills and experience to address technical challenges in fluid flow and heat transfer and developing proportionate, appropriate, and credible solutions.
  • You’ll be able to use your communication skills to engage effectively with project stakeholders internally and externally, both verbally and through crisp and focused writing.
  • You’ll be flexible enough to work across industries, but have experience in delivering solutions in low carbon energy, for example in the hydrogen or nuclear industries.

It is to your advantage if you meet any or all the following additional requirements:

  • Experience of using detailed modelling approaches such as computational fluid dynamics to understand complex flow fields and heat transfer;
  • Experience in delivering consequence analysis to support qualitative risk assessment processes, using proportionate analysis work to justify the safety of plant, and recommend design solutions;
