Purpose of role:

The Head of Health amp; Safety is responsible for leading, driving and coordinating Health and Safety Teams and Management Systems to deliver continual improvement across the Gousto business. The primary role is to provide the management teams across multiple sites with the appropriate level of support to deliver safe working environments for all our employee’s, contractors and visitors. It is also to ensure the business maintains statutory compliance with pertinent Health amp; Safety legislation.

Key Accountabilities



  • Drive Gousto Health and Safety performance improvement at all fulfillment locations and central headquarters to deliver agreed KPI targets
  • Establish the Gousto Health and Safety group policies and systems
  • Ensure that the group Health and Safety policies are trained to the same standard across all sites and managed effectively to support the adherence to all relevant legislation and agreed internal standards
  • Develop and deliver the Group Health and Safety plan in conjunction with the location’s leadership team to improve Health and Safety performance
  • Coordinate, manage and lead investigations into all Group Health and Safety incidents ensuring they are reported to the enforcing authorities, in accordance with the requirements of relevant regulations
  • Ensure learnings from incidents are shared across the group promoting continuous improvement and consistency
  • Ensure legal compliance and key stakeholder management with regulatory authorities and insurers on key matters, including Fire Risk Assessments and Certification, RIDDOR reporting, Emergency and Incident Planning
  • Lead Goustos Health and Safety audit programmes to ensure compliance with agreed standards and recommend areas for improvement
  • Ensure that Health, Safety and Environment matters are considered in all Capex projects in line with Group policy and insurance requirements
  • Provide risk management leadership and support to the Management team and Site Leadership Teams across the organisation to ensure a positive culture is established in response to company values and regulatory Hamp;S issues across a multi-site organisation.
  • Fulfil the role of the organisation's competent health and safety person providing leadership, expertise, strategic and practical advice for occupational safety across the business.

People Management and development

  • Coach, guide and lead the Hamp;S Site Teams to partner with the business to continually improve the SHE agenda, behaviours and performance.
  • Carry out annual/mid year reviews with direct reports in line with Company Performance and Development policy and deadlines.
  • Manage employee claims procedure and interface with external parties
  • Ensure the factory management teams are compliant with the Group Hamp;S management system.
  • Review core training / competency requirements against agreed training plans / frameworks.
  • In conjunction with HR/Training, implement an annual training strategy mapped against business priorities.



Continuous Improvement

  • Deliver Improvement plans covering all operational KPIs within the roles scope.
  • Identify, participate and advise in improvement projects designed to maintain quality and health amp; safety; audit effectiveness of improvements.
  • Generate and maintain a culture of continuous improvement in the area of Hamp;S, and coach and assist personnel to develop in this area.
  • Work in conjunction with HR and Occupational Health Advisors to promote health awareness across the company.

Communication

  • Hamp;S KPI’s updated monthly for Operations Leadership Team, Supply Tribe and Management team, team briefs and site information boards.
  • Participate in Group Risk Management review processes
  • Liaise with Regulatory authorities.
  • Ensure effective coordination and communication of safety bulletins in conjunction with Site Leadership Teams and Hamp;S Forums
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of Hamp;S communication in the workplace and put forward recommendations for potential improvements.
